Lamborghini has revealed the SC63 Hypercar at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. The SC63 will be Lamborghini's weapon to conquer endurance races like 24 hours of Daytona, 24 hours of Le Mans, Sebring and more in the year 2024! The SC63 prototype is showcased alongside the stunning new Revuelto and Huracan Sterrato supercars at the Goodwood.
Lamborghini has ambitious plans for the hypercar, entering it in the FIA World Endurance Championship in the Hypercar class and in the IMSA Weathertech Sportscar Championship in the GTP Class. The SC63 is set to challenge prominent rivals including Ferrari, Toyota, Porsche, Peugeot, Cadillac, BMW, Alpine, Acura, and numerous other competitors.
Details of the 2024 Lamborghini SC63 Hypercar
Lamborghini SC63 features the brand's aggressive design language without compromising functionality. It features Lamborghini's latest ‘Y’ shaped signature headlight, also seen on the Revuelto, these headlights are accompanied by an array of LED lights that will illuminate the track. The SC63 bears the closest resemblance to the Lamborghini V12 Vision Gran Turismo model.
The car features subtle wheel arches influenced by the Lamborghini road cars, while the NACA ducts on the sides pay homage to the original Countach. The rear of the car is primarily designed for aerodynamic efficiency and cooling performance rather than being a direct tribute to Marcello Gandini's designs. The Italian touch on the vehicle sets it apart from competitors such as BMW, Cadillac, Porsche, and Acura which it aims to challenge on the track.
The SC63 race car is powered by a bespoke 3.8-litre twin-turbo V8 engine, sitting at the back of the Ligier chassis. The engine is accompanied by a specified hybrid system and transmission, as per LMDh regulations, the combined power output is limited to 670 horsepower, all going to the rear wheels. Lamborghini highlights the "cold v" configuration, positioning the turbochargers outside the engine's V to enhance serviceability, and cooling, and lower the car's centre gravity.
Lamborghini Squadra Corse has teamed up with the Iron Lynx team for the WEC and IMSA campaigns. The driver lineup includes F1 veterans Romain Grosjean and Daniil Kvyat, alongside Bartolotti Caldarelli, with more drivers to be confirmed later this year. The car is set to undergo physical testing soon and will make its racing debut at the Daytona 24 Hours in January 2024.
A word from Lamborghini Officials
Mitja Borkert, Head of Design at Centro Stile, Lamborghini said, “From the beginning, my personal briefing to the design team was that the car needs to be highly functional, but we wanted to create a car that is immediately recognizable as Lamborghini. The main recognition of the front and rear of the SC63 is driven by the y-shaped signature light. Integrated into the side panel of the body you can see a NACA duct that was inspired by the air intake of the Countach. When you look at the rear wheel arch, we gave the impression of acceleration towards the front, and this relates to the wheel arch design language of Lamborghini that can also be seen on the Revuelto.”
Stephan Winkelmann, Chairman and CEO of Lamborghini said, “Goodwood Festival of Speed provides a perfect environment for Lamborghini to continue our 60th anniversary celebrations in 2023. Goodwood is an ideal venue to present our exciting new endurance racecar project and for the debut dynamic appearance of our new flagship hybrid V12 Revuelto: our first new model as we head on our path towards electrification. Importantly, not only do we welcome our clients to Goodwood in true Lamborghini style, but the Festival of Speed is a wonderful opportunity to put our cars and brand in front of so many Lamborghini enthusiasts who visit the UK event over the four days.”
