Dubai has taken a monumental leap in its electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure with the inauguration of the Terra 360 DC Fast Charger by Charge&go, the electric mobility subsidiary of e&.

Located at Al Kifaf on Sheikh Zayed Road, the new charging station, capable of delivering 360 kW, is officially the fastest public EV charger in the UAE, offering significant reductions in charging times for electric vehicles. This development represents a critical step in addressing one of the key barriers to EV adoption—charging time.

The GMC HUMMER EV had the honour of being the first vehicle to use this cutting-edge charger. With its 350 kW charging speed, the HUMMER EV was able to replenish a substantial range in less than 15 minutes, setting a new benchmark for EV charging technology in the region.

Setting a New Standard for Electric Mobility

The Terra 360 charger is expected to significantly accelerate Dubai's transition towards a more sustainable transportation infrastructure. In recent years, the UAE has placed increasing emphasis on reducing its carbon footprint and embracing green technologies. This fast-charging network, led by Charge&go, is a critical component of these efforts.

At the launch event, Muammar AlRukhaimi, CEO of Etisalat Services Holding, lauded Charge&go for its impressive growth and innovation in the UAE’s EV market. He noted, "In just one year, Charge&go has made a bold entry into the UAE’s EV charging market, setting high standards, breaking records, and leading both public and private sectors towards a sustainable future." The launch of the Terra 360 represents a culmination of these efforts, symbolizing a significant milestone in the UAE's journey toward becoming a global leader in electric mobility.

AlRukhaimi highlighted the strategic importance of this particular charger’s location: Sheikh Zayed Road, a major thoroughfare in Dubai. It provides a much-needed charging hub in a high-traffic area, making it easier for EV drivers to charge their vehicles quickly while on the go.

General Motors: Leading the Charge

One of the event’s key participants was General Motors (GM), a global leader in EV technology, which used the occasion to showcase the GMC HUMMER EV, one of its flagship electric vehicles. Jack Uppal, President and Managing Director at General Motors AMEO, praised the Terra 360 as a game-changer for the region's EV drivers. "This milestone by Charge&go represents a significant advancement for our electric vehicle customers. With the ability to charge at speeds up to 360 kW, our GMC HUMMER EV and upcoming EVs can now achieve their optimal charging performance, reducing downtime and enhancing our customers’ experience on the road."

The HUMMER EV, known for its off-road capabilities and high performance, features GM's modular EV propulsion architecture, which delivers outstanding power and versatility. Equipped with three motors and 24 battery modules, this platform allows the vehicle to achieve a driving range of over 540 km on a full charge, according to GM estimates. The fast-charging capability of up to 350 kW for the HUMMER EV SUT and 300 kW for the SUV positions GM as a leader in EV innovation, offering an industry-first feature that mechanically switches the batteries from parallel to series mode during charging. This cutting-edge technology optimizes both efficiency and speed, drastically reducing the time needed to reach a full charge.

Charge&go’s Vision: A Sustainable Future for the UAE

Charge&go has made waves since its debut in the UAE’s EV market just a year ago. The company’s swift rise in the electric mobility sector has been driven by its commitment to setting new standards for EV charging infrastructure. The Terra 360 is the latest in a series of milestones that reflect Charge&go’s ambitions to revolutionize the UAE’s approach to electric mobility.

AlRukhaimi emphasized that Charge&go is committed to expanding its fast-charging network, providing both public and private sectors with the necessary infrastructure to facilitate widespread EV adoption. He added, “We are thrilled about this collaboration with General Motors, as we continue to drive forward innovation and sustainability in the region."

Looking ahead, Charge&go plans to build on the success of the Terra 360 by expanding its network of fast chargers across the UAE, addressing critical pain points like charging speed and availability. With 360 kW fast chargers, vehicles such as the GMC HUMMER EV can dramatically reduce their charging time, enabling them to spend less time at the charging station and more time on the road.

Charge&go Commitment to Technological Innovation and Sustainability

The success of Charge&go is a reflection of the broader goals of its parent company, e&, one of the world’s leading technology groups. e&, which had consolidated net revenue of AED 53.8 billion in 2023, has been a major player in advancing digital solutions and connectivity technologies across the UAE and beyond. General Motors: Shaping the Future of Electric Driving

For General Motors, the Terra 360 represents a pivotal opportunity to highlight its advanced EV technology in a region that is rapidly embracing sustainable mobility. The GMC HUMMER EV, with its powerful performance, innovative technology, and long-range capabilities, serves as a symbol of GM’s leadership in the electric vehicle space.

GM’s Africa & Middle East operations have a long history in the region, spanning over 95 years. With a network of 17 distributors and 203 customer-facing rooftops across 29 countries, GM has established itself as a trusted name in the automotive industry. As GM continues to expand its electric vehicle offerings, the Middle East remains a key market for the company’s future growth.

Jack Uppal noted that the Terra 360 fast charger marks a major step forward in achieving GM's vision of an all-electric future, particularly in the UAE, where demand for sustainable transportation solutions is on the rise.

A Step Towards a Greener Future

The inauguration of the Terra 360 DC Fast Charger is not only a win for EV drivers in the UAE but also a significant advancement in the country’s overall push toward a more sustainable future. With companies like Charge&go and General Motors leading the charge, the UAE is well on its way to becoming a global leader in electric mobility and sustainability.
