Toyota has ignited excitement among Land Cruiser and Prado fans across the globe by teasing the upcoming 2024 Land Cruiser Prado alongside its ancestor the FJ40. In the teaser, we can only see the silhouette of both vehicles where the new Prado looks boxier and more rugged than before. The next-gen Prado will also be sold in North America and may carry a Land Cruiser nameplate in a few regions and may be called Land Cruiser 250, positioning itself below the Land Cruiser 300 series.
History of the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado
Toyota Land Cruiser Prado first made its appearance around 65 years ago in the early 1960s as a smaller sibling to the Land Cruiser. It quickly became popular because of its ruggedness, performance and offroad capabilities. Later it received a few generation updates, with the fourth and latest generation having launched in 2009, since then it's been 14 years without any significant updates on the model.
Details of the 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado SUV
The next-generation Toyota Prado is going to be a massive upgrade from the outgoing model and will be based on its recently launched cousin, the new Lexus GX. The Prado will share the same TNGA-F platform as the Lexus GX. Though it may share a few design cues from the Lexus GX, it will distinguish itself from its cousin by featuring a unique design and carrying forward the outgoing Prado's DNA and identity traits. It will feature a body-on-frame design, and the new frame will increase the Prado's body rigidity and will enhance its handling.
Exterior details of the next-gen Toyota Land Cruiser Prado
The next-gen Prado may come with three front fascia designs, including one that will be inspired by the 70 Series Land Cruiser with classic round headlights and old-school rims, which may become a popular model for African and Middle Eastern markets with a rich Land Cruiser history. The teaser's silhouette suggests that the new Land Cruiser Prado will feature a similar design to the Lexus GX, including a boxy stance, a flat roof and a flat bonnet.
Toyota has reduced Land Cruiser's weight by around 200kgs and is likely to reduce Prado's too, which would enhance the SUV's performance too. The new Prado can be equipped with aluminium panels including its doors, mudguard, hood, roof and tailgate, which will contribute to better weight distribution and will further enhance its high-speed stability, making it more planted while driving.
