The new Patrol promises to be a game-changer when it arrives in the UAE.

The 2025 Nissan Patrol has officially been unveiled in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the UAE and the city where almost every third vehicle on the road is a Patrol. Residents of the UAE have long been fans and admirers of this nameplate with even the President of the UAE and the entire Abu Dhabi Royal Family and government employees preferring it as their favourite daily car.

The new Patrol promises to be a game-changer when it arrives in the UAE. Here’s everything you need to know about this much-anticipated SUV before it hits the road.

Bigger and Bolder Design

The body of the Y63 Patrol is now 35mm longer and 35mm wider than its predecessor, sitting on the same wheelbase and height. The design updates are instantly noticeable, with distinctive C-clamp lights that some say resemble the number “63”, possibly alluding to the Y63 model designation. Up front, there’s a new 170-degree camera for better visibility at intersections, along with front and rear cross-traffic alerts, enhancing overall safety.

Engine and Performance

One of the significant changes in the Y63 Patrol is under the hood. The familiar V8 is gone, replaced by a 3.5-liter turbocharged V6 petrol engine producing 425hp of power and 700Nm of torque, paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission. While a naturally aspirated 3.8-liter V6 will also be available. This follows the same tactical approach adopted by Toyota with the Land Cruiser 300 when it launched a couple of years ago.

The suspension system has also received a major upgrade. The old hydraulic setup has been replaced with air suspension, offering 70mm of extra ride height and adjusting itself at highway speeds for optimal aerodynamics and easy access. Whether this will be standard across the whole range is yet to be confirmed.

Advanced Technology and Interior Upgrades

Nissan has truly elevated the interior experience in the all-new Patrol. The SUV now features over 28 inches of display with two 14.3-inch screens, a sleek centre console with piano black finishes, and button-based gear selection. A new wireless phone charger, integrated fridge, and massaging seats add to the luxury feel.

The infotainment system has been completely revamped, now including a Google Assistant-based system with cloud-based voice recognition and Google Maps, which can also be displayed on the head-up display in front of the driver.

Rear Passenger Comfort

The second-row seats slide, giving third-row passengers more legroom, unlike its rival, the Toyota Land Cruiser 300 Series. Rear passengers are treated to two 12.3-inch displays and extra climate controls with USB-C charging ports. The Y63 Patrol also features biometric cooling, which uses infrared sensors to detect skin temperature and adjust cooling accordingly—an impressive touch of futuristic technology.

Off-Road Capabilities

Built with off-road enthusiasts in mind, the Y63 Patrol boasts a suite of new driving modes, including Rock, Sand, Mud, Standard, Eco, and Sport. It also comes with a rear differential lock, full-time four-wheel drive, and options for low and high-range gearing, ensuring it can tackle any terrain.

Nissan has improved the vehicle’s cooling system by switching to electric fans, enhancing performance in extreme climates like the scorching 40-degree heat of Abu Dhabi, where the launch event was held.

Pricing and Availability

UAE pricing for the Y63 Patrol will range from approximately AED 260,000 for the base V6 naturally aspirated engine spec to AED 420,000 for the fully loaded spec. The outgoing Y62 Patrol will still be available until stock runs out, probably till the end of 2024, giving buyers a choice between the two models.

While towing capacity for the UAE hasn’t been confirmed, it’s expected to be around 3.5 tonnes, maintaining its robust utility. Nissan claims fuel efficiency is also improved by 34%, making the Y63 not just more powerful but also more economical.

Final Thoughts

The Y63 Nissan Patrol combines rugged off-road capability with a new level of luxury and advanced technology. From its striking design and powerful engine options to the innovative biometric cooling and air suspension, it’s clear Nissan has made significant strides with this new model. With its arrival still a few months away, anticipation is only set to grow as we await more details on detailed pricing and exact specifications of each trim.
