The Middle East market is a significant one for Volvo. And the proof that the company has served its customers here well is that it has bagged in another award. This time it is the new XC60 that has received the Middle East Car of the Year Award for 2018.
The news was announced during the award ceremony of the MECOTY 2018 that took place along with the Abu Dhabi International Motor Show. The jury voted the XC60 as the car of the year for 2018. MECOTY is the automotive industry's most prestigious accolade in the Middle East region. Each nominated vehicle is tested by a panel of the region's top automotive journalists on ten separate scoring parameters.
Another good news is that it is not only the MECOTY award that XC60 won, it also grasped the Midsize Premium SUV award. And on top of that, adding to Volvo's growing list of accolades, XC40 also won an award in the Small Premium SUV category.
“We are honored and pleased to accept these prestigious awards”, said Jesus Fernandez de Masa, Managing Director at Volvo Cars EMEA Importers. “The MECOTY award, as well as both SUV category awards, prove that Volvo Cars have the right design, performance and connectivity that appeal to the customers of the Middle East, a key market for us.”
This is not the first award that XC60 has won this year. It has also received the prestigious North American Utility Vehicle of the Year award earlier, along with the World Car of the Year 2018 at the New York Auto Show. On the other hand, the XC40 too was named European Car of the Year at the Geneva Motor show a few weeks earlier.
Volvo makes some of the safest cars in the world, and the XC60 is just a bright example of the same. The new one comes loaded with high-end advanced safety features like Volvo's City Safety Autonomous Emergency Braking, Oncoming Lane Mitigation with Steer Assist, Blind Spot Information System with Steer Assist functionality, and so on.
Volvo keeps on innovating new features that help improve the safety of not only the occupants of their cars, but also the outsiders. The company is also working forcefully towards achieving its goal of electrifying all of its cars by 2019.
