The BMW 1 Series is marking a new chapter in its 20-year success story with the introduction of its fourth model generation. Renowned for its dynamic design, innovative technology, and sustainability features, the new BMW 1 Series stands out as the sportiest vehicle in its competitive environment. With the market launch scheduled for October 2024, this article delves into the extensive improvements and features of this groundbreaking model.

Dynamic Design and Exterior Features

Bold Front End and Signature BMW Proportions

The new BMW 1 Series continues to impress with its sporty aura, characterized by typical BMW proportions. A long bonnet, passenger cell set well back, dynamically flowing roofline, and powerful rear end define its dynamic presence. The exterior dimensions have slightly changed, with an increased length of 4,361 millimeters and a wheelbase of 2,670 millimeters. The height has grown by 25 millimeters to 1,459 millimeters, enhancing its athletic stance.

The front end features a strikingly flat design that sits lower to the road compared to its predecessor. The wide, forward-leaning BMW radiator grille now boasts an innovative structure of vertical and diagonal bars, flanked by standard LED headlights with vertical elements for daytime running lights and turn indicators. Optional adaptive LED headlights with glare-free matrix high beam, cornering light function, and blue accents are available for those seeking advanced illumination.

Sleek Side Profile and Distinctive Rear Design

The side view of the new BMW 1 Series is dominated by a dynamic wedge shape and flat window graphics tapering towards the rear. The BMW Individual high-gloss Shadow Line includes a graphic element with the number 1 in the Hofmeister kink counter-swing on the C-pillar. The vehicle's silhouette is further accentuated by a long roof spoiler and side air deflectors, while vertical reflectors and a black diffuser-style insert emphasize the powerful rear apron. The two-part rear lights extend well into the side sections, adding to its distinctive look.

Extensive Paintwork Options

The new BMW 1 Series offers a variety of paint finishes, including two solid options and seven metallic finishes. Four BMW Individual paint finishes and a wide range of BMW Individual special paint finishes provide further customization. Notably, the BMW 1 Series is the first in its range to offer an optional contrasting roof paint finish in high-gloss black, enhancing its sporty appearance.

Performance and Engine Options

BMW M Model with Enhanced Performance

The optional M Sport Package and M Sport Design equipment enhance the new BMW 1 Series' dynamic capabilities. The top-of-the-range BMW M135 xDrive boasts a 300 hp four-cylinder engine, Adaptive M Chassis with sport steering, and intelligent all-wheel drive as standard, enabling acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.9 seconds. M-specific design features such as large air intakes, pronounced side skirts, and a three-dimensional diffuser element set it apart visually.

Advanced Engine Technology

All engines for the new BMW 1 Series are part of the latest generation of modular engines from the BMW Group, featuring 48-volt mild hybrid technology for enhanced efficiency and power delivery. The new BMW 120, powered by a three-cylinder petrol engine, and the BMW 120d, equipped with a four-cylinder diesel engine, both feature this technology. The engines transmit power through a 7-speed Steptronic transmission with dual clutch as standard.

The BMW 120 produces 170 hp, achieving 0 to 100 km/h in 7.8 seconds, while the BMW 120d generates 163 hp, reaching the same speed in 7.9 seconds. The BMW 118d, powered by a four-cylinder diesel engine, delivers 150 hp with an acceleration time of 8.3 seconds.

Interior Comfort and Innovative Technology

Modern Premium Ambience

Optional sport seats with covers and upholstery made from recycled polyester, and perforated seat surfaces in the Veganza version with leather-like properties, offer additional customization.

Advanced Digital Displays and Controls

The fully digital display system includes a 10.25-inch Information Display and a 10.7-inch Control Display. The cockpit's number of buttons and controls has been significantly reduced thanks to the use of digital technology. The air conditioning is also controlled digitally, enhancing the streamlined design.
