We could soon be looking at a new addition to Mercedes-Benz's brand range. Based on the spy shots that were recently snapped by Auto Express, we expect the upcoming car to be the CLA Shooting Brake as it takes shape before being officially revealed by the end of 2019.
Mercedes-Benz might be slating an easy win with the new compact premium estate as there are no direct rivals that the upcoming car will lock horns with. Audi currently produces a saloon version of the A3 to compete with the regular CLA, while BMW is trading on a 2-series Gran Coupe to compete in the same class, however, with no official word from the company.
Images of the second generation compact saloon which was spotted sporting heavy camo lead us to believe that the upcoming model will prioritise a sporty look over practicality.
The car could be seen having a sleek profile with a roofline that tapers away towards the back end, which we can only imagine will reduce the boot space significantly. We could not get a sure glimpse of the lights but we could most likely be looking at a strong resemblance with the A-Class at the front and the CLS at the rear.
At heart, the car will be mechanically retained from the A-Class hatchback and hence will be powered by the same petrol and diesel variants. The A-Class range currently features a 1.5-litre turbo diesel with 114bhp, a 1.3-litre turbo petrol with 134bhp or 161bhp, and a 2.0-litre turbo with 221bhp
Ones who are expecting an AMG version of the saloon need not be disappointed as we could be expecting the same in the coming years. Apart from that, we could be looking at a CLA 35 featuring the 302bhp 2.0-litre turbocharged unit, similar to that of the latest A 35. The engine will deliver triple-digit speeds in less than 5 seconds and will below the CLA45 which yields 400bhp and may feature hybrid assistance.
