At its third edition this year, VW Dub Drive that was held on the 8th and 9th February in Abu Dhabi saw the presence of participants from over seven countries.
More than 300 cars graced their presence at the biggest VW gathering in the Middle East surpassing the 150 cars that attended the event last year. The event was hosted by Volkswagen Middle East and San Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi. International clubs from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Oman, Kuwait, Lebanon and the United Arab Emirates, alongside Germany, the Netherlands and the USA were present at the event.
The Drive saw some of the most iconic cars in Volkswagen's history such as Beetles and Campers alongside modern monikers such as GTIs and Golf Rs.
“The energy and passion of the regional Volkswagen community shone through this weekend. Each year this event gets bigger and better and we were overwhelmed to receive such great support from the clubs across the GCC and the globe, together with our dealer network, in particular, Ali & Sons. It is fantastic to see the spirit of unity and witness Volkswagen families, fans and customers unite around one shared passion” commented Andrew Savvas, Brand Director for Volkswagen Middle East.
The event also included an award ceremony where Mohammad Al Hammadi from the Abu Dhabi bagged the 'Car of the Year' award. Oman Club members, Muntaser Al Barwani, the administrator for the Club and Abbas Al Lawati, seized the runners up positions of the 'Car of the Year' award.
“It is absolutely a collection of enthusiasts and car owners coming together to share one passion for the brand, It's the heartbeat of the youth,” said Managing Director of Audi, Volkswagen Middle East, Deesch Papke.
The Dub Drive derives its inspiration from the old tradition, W¶erthersee Club Treffen, which is the largest Volkswagen GTI event in the world. The festival was first kicked off 37 years ago in a small village at lake W¶erthersee in Austria by a few Volkswagen fans meeting up, showcasing their cars and exchanging stories. Since then, the event has grown into a long festival attended by hundreds of thousands of Volkswagen fans from all over Europe.
