Nissan has introduced its latest model of the Magnite compact SUV, marking a significant step in the brand's aspirations for global expansion. Originally launched in India, the new Magnite is now also available for left-hand drive markets. This means that the car may soon be expected in the UAE market as well. This launch is part of Nissan’s "One Car, One World" strategy.
The New Magnite features a bold, modern exterior with LED lighting, alloy wheels, and roof rails. Powered by a 1.0-litre turbocharged engine, it delivers 99 horsepower and 160 Nm of torque. It is available in both manual and CVT transmission options. Despite its compact size, the Magnite can accommodate five passengers due to its wheelbase of 2500mm - making it ideal for urban mobility. It also has advanced tech like the Around View Monitor, which assists drivers in navigating tight spaces.
The SUV's interior showcases a 7-inch TFT driver display, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, ambient lighting, and added convenience features like a remote engine start and a cooled glove box. It also has six airbags, a reinforced steel body, and three-point seat belts for rear passengers.
Frank Torres, President of Nissan India Operations, praised the vehicle’s striking design, innovative technology, and balance of performance and fuel economy, claiming that it is a compelling option for both Indian and international customers.
Guillaume Cartier, Chairperson of Nissan AMIEO (Africa, Middle East, India, Europe & Oceania) Region, said, “The Magnite is already well established in India and other right-hand drive markets, but this launch is an important landmark for Nissan in the region. Under the strategy of what we call ‘One Car, One World’, we will now export the new Magnite to a total of more than 65 markets from our state-of-the-art factory in Chennai. With this, India will become an export hub for Nissan. We are confident that the new Magnite will be equally loved and appreciated in markets like South Africa and Saudi Arabia as it is in India.”
Nissan’s Chennai plant will produce the left-hand drive Magnite, and the faculty hopes to reach the company’s sustainability goals with increased reliance on renewable energy in this project. Reportedly, the facility plans to achieve carbon neutrality by 2025, with 75% of its current energy sourced from renewable sources, a number likely to increase through further investment in solar power.
Until now, Nissan Motor India had only produced Magnite in right-hand drive configuration, with export to 20 right-hand drive markets. Nissan aims to make the New Magnite one of its most extensively distributed vehicles across the Africa, Middle East, India, and Oceania regions, with plans to expand exports to more than 65 markets by 2026.
Nissan Motor India Private Ltd. (NMIPL) incorporated in 2010 is a 100% subsidiary of Nissan Motor Co. Ltd. Japan, serving both the domestic and export markets with a manufacturing plant and R&D Centre in Chennai.
