Nissan Motor has announced that the Japanese brand's electric vehicle sales have triumphed over one million units globally.
The Nissan LEAF has a major share in achieving the milestone, with more than 650,000 units sold worldwide, since its launch in December 2010. The EV is currently being sold in approximately 50 countries including Japan, the USA and Europe. It has won numerous prestigious awards and continues to be a popular choice among the customers around the world.
In 2022, Nissan introduced the Ariya, an all-electric crossover with cutting-edge design and technologies like e-4ORCE all-wheel control and ProPILOT 2.0 advanced driver support. Ariya received multiple awards like the Auto Color Award 2021 Grand Prix in Japan and the Red Dot Design Award in Germany, along with making it to the Wards 10 Best Interiors and UX list.
Nissan launched the Sakura in 2022, which was the brand's first EV for the Japanese mini-vehicle market. With its quiet cabin, powerful and smooth acceleration, elegantly designed spacious interior, and ample daily driving range, it garnered 50,000 cumulative orders.
The Sakura has won three prestigious awards in Japan:
1. The 2022-2023 Japan Car of the Year award. It is the first mini-vehicle to win the award, in recognition of the car's role in accelerating the market's electrification.
2. 2023 RJC Car of the Year award
3. 2023 JAHFA Car of the Year award
Nissan plans to introduce 19 EV models by the financial year 2030 under the Nissan Ambition 2030 long-term vision.
The Japanese carmaker also plans to introduce EVs with all-in-house designed solid-state batteries by the fiscal year 2028 and expand its EV lineup to accommodate the various demands of customers throughout the world.
