Japanese luxury automaker Infiniti debuted the new 2019 QX50 at a big-time event in Dubai. The midsize crossover gets a host of new technology, features, and creature comforts inside whilst being more fuel-efficient and powerful than before.
Out of the long list of impressive features of the new QX50, the engine stands out by a mile. The crossover is powered by a 2.0-liter VC-Turbo (Variable Compression Turbo) that makes 268hp and 389Nm. The motor works in tandem with the multi-link system to determine compression in each cylinder. The technology boosts the flexibility of the engine. In other words, due to variable compression, those who want performance shall find the engine delivers more than sufficient punch. Others who want good fuel efficiency are also in luck as the motor can adjust itself to running lean in order to conserve fuel.
“The Middle East is a key focus region for Infiniti globally, and the all-new QX50 is one of the most important vehicles we've unveiled here in the past year,” said Markus Leithe, MD Middle East of Infiniti Motor Company. He further added, “The all-new QX50 boasts advanced safety features and is the first vehicle in the world to be powered by an engine that can vary compression ration on the fly, thanks to our groundbreaking VC-Turbo engine. We very much look forward to seeing this car on the region's roads from September.”
Infiniti ditched the rear-wheel drivetrain that ran under the old QX50. For 2018, you can now spec the crossover with FWD or AWD. The engine is mated to a CVT gearbox, making it a boon in congested urban streets. The 2019 Infiniti QX50 can be yours for $44,000 or AED 161,621 excluding VAT. It will arrive in dealerships from September onwards. Infiniti is pitching the midsize crossover against cars like the BMW X3, Audi Q5, and Lexus NX.
