Earlier this month at the North American International Auto Show Lincoln brought back over a decade old moniker: the 2020 Aviator.
It was introduced in the mid-size luxury SUV segment as a credible alternative to its German counterparts. And the price tag reflects the same with things kicking off from $52,195 onwards. At the heart of it all is a 3.0-litre engine, good for 400hp and 610Nm of torque that is supplied to the rear wheels in the base trim. However, one can opt for an all-wheel-drive with an additional $2,500.
A rung up the ladder can quench your thirst for power with the Aviator Grand Touring featuring a plug-in hybrid setup combining the twin-turbo V6 with an electric motor for an estimated combined output of 450hp and a massive 813Nm of torque. This will, however, be available at a premium of $17,700 over the standard trim.
This is still not the maximum price as it goes higher. Much higher. While the Aviator Grand Touring trim can be brought home for $69,895, opting it with Lincoln's premium Black Label trim will cost you a whopping $88,895.
On the brighter side, the base trim does have a long list of standard items. This includes a 10-speed automatic transmission, 19-inch wheels, fuel-saving active grille shutters, a power tailgate, a rear-view camera, 10-way heated front seats, a 10-inch infotainment screen, Wi-fi hotspot and a suite of electronic driver aids.
With its pricing unveiled, immediate competitors for the Lincoln Aviator includes the Audi Q7, BMW X5, Lexus RX, Mercedes-Benz GLE and Volvo XC90.
Lincoln's arch-rival Cadillac recently unveiled its own mid-size crossover XT6. The new three-row crossover slots in between smaller XT5 and its range range-topping stablemate, Cadillac Escalade. Pricing details for the all-new 2020 Cadillac XT6 are not out yet, but we do know the crossover will go on sale later this year.
