More Spy Shots Surface For The 2018 Mercedes-Benz G-Class
The new and redesigned 2018 Mercedes-Benz G-Class is just around the corner. We have seen a few spy shots of this iconic SUV being tested in full camouflage and here are some more updates on it's launch.
A closer look reveals a full array of LEDs front and back, giving this timeless SUV a modern touch. The new 2018 Mercedes-Benz G-Class will continue to be built in Graz, Austria by Magna Steyr and will have a wider and a longer body, a total of four inches from what we've learnt.
The G-Class is an iconic car which started its life as a military vehicle and was put in production in the 70's at the request of the then Shah of Iran. It has remained visually unchanged for decades and for 2018, Mercedes-Benz doesn't want to tweak the formula that has worked over generations.
There is speculation that it might get a revised interior to add some more modernity but no confirmation on that yet. However, a centre console cup holder might be the reason the body needs to be widened and we aren't joking about that.
The G-Class is also set to lose a few pounds that is aimed to improving fuel economy and some performance. However, with the G55 and the G63 still being popular variants of this behemoth, we doubt if fuel consumption will be the top consideration for buyers. It also is rumored that it is going to have an independent front axle which was not seen in the previous models and in all honesty, sold axles are what we prefer.
There is also a very strong possibility of seeing a new inline-6 engine on the 2018 G-Class.
