MG Motor debuted the second generation 2019 GS compact crossover with a scheduled launch later in the year in the Middle East. The new GS promises to be a versatile vehicle with the right mix of performance, practicality, and comfort.
The first generation MG GS was a success for the British carmaker. With its decent power, compact dimensions, and roomy interiors, the GS ticked the right boxes for many a family man. Fast forward to 2018, MG Motor has now introduced the second generation of the popular crossover. Commenting on the New MG GS, Mr. Tom Lee, Managing Director, SAIC Motor Middle East said: “The first-generation model helped to introduce our brand to customers in the Middle East. The new MG GS arrives at a time when we are experiencing significant growth in the number of MG cars being bought across the region. Crafted to high standards of design, technology, comfort, and safety, it reinforces the quality of the MG line-up and we are confident will help to boost the growing popularity of the brand.”
The 2019 MG GS gets two trims, namely 2.0T COM and 2.0T Lux AWD. There is one engine on offer with the crossover: a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-pot that makes 221hp and 350Nm. It can either be had with two-wheel-drive or AWD with the latter featuring faster torque distribution than the previous model. The engine is paired to a nine-speed automatic gearbox.
The new generation GS has been comprehensively redesigned from both the inside and outside. The interiors have been updated heavily. More than 80 percent of the surfaces are now covered in soft-touch material. The sound deadening has also been reworked along with the refinement of the engine. This results in the 2019 GS getting an impressively quiet cabin. The air-con features 360-degree swiveling vents with a compressor that is more powerful as well as efficient than before.
Electric folding mirrors, an electrically-operated sunroof, keyless entry, cruise control, a push-start button, auto-hold function, hill-descent control, reversing sensors and a parking camera- all is standard fare on both the trims. The infotainment system also supports Apple CarPlay through its 8-inch HD touchscreen. Additionally, there is an offline GCC map and POI searchability in the system.
As for dimensions, the 2019 MG GS is longer, wider, and taller than its rivals allowing for extra space inside. There are 24 storage spaces all around the cabin, and the boot gulps in a maximum of 1,336 liters of luggage. MG hasn't skimped on safety either, with the GS boasting of a 5-star Euro NCAP rating. Standard safety features include ABS, EBD, ESP and six airbags.
The 2019 MG GS will go on sale in the Middle East later this year. Prices start from AED 63,200 or $17,200 for the entry-level trim.
