The G-Class has always been a hardcore vehicle. It could act as a family car to take your folks out for a weekend getaway. It could also switch its character in a snap, and be the gangster car which everyone recognizes from a distance. The G-Class has carried over its this personality for decades.
It was earlier this year when Mercedes-Benz unveiled the 2019 G-Class at the Detroit Motor Show. And now the company has started its production at its Magna Steyr plant in Graz, Austria. It is here where it all began way back in 1979.
Since the G-Class isn't just a usual SUV, it has to go through a series of brutal testing during development and production phases. Mercedes-Benz's Graz plant has facilities, like a prototype workshop, and a private test track in the mountain, which make it possible for the firm to make the G-Class better in every of its next iteration.
Speaking about the commencement of the new 2019 G-Class in Austria, Ola Kallenius, Member of the Board of Management of Daimler AG said, "The new G-Class is raising the bar higher in all relevant areas. Our 'longest-serving' series is therefore perfectly equipped to continue its success story. In short, the new 'G' remains a 'G', only better."
Mercedes has done myriad changes in the 2019 G-Class. There's an all-new ladder-on-frame chassis that underpins the new G-Class. Then there is the new and more advanced independent front suspension setup which is better as well as lighter.
The new 2019 G-Class has got some visual tweaks to make it look that much more modern. We've got a redesigned pair of headlamps, smoother contour all around, larger wheels, etc.. Mercedes has also altered the dimensions of the new vehicle - it is now 53mm longer, 121mm wider and close to 8mm taller than its predecessor, and its wheelbase has also been stretched by 40mm.
The cabin of the new 2019 G-Class is typical Mercedes style. It is a familiar place to be if you've been inside a previous generation G-Class. However, there are some new features that make the space more modern. The new wide display is simply gorgeous. It houses all the tell-tale signs, odometer, speedometer, tachometer, and it also takes care of the navigation, climate controls, and various other controls. It is simply marvelous.
Mercedes has opted to use one of its best engines in the 2019 G-Class. It is a 4.0-liter turbocharged V8 that has got 415 horsepower and 610 Nm of torque. It comes with a 9-speed automatic transmission. And yes, of course, there will be an AMG variant that will satisfy the needs of the beast inside you. It will feature the same engine but boosted to generate 603 horsepower and 700 Nm of torque.
As the new G-Class is already up on the production line, it will soon start reaching the dealerships and then to its customers.
