Lamborghini is reportedly pondering over a fourth model line after its CEO hinted at a potential successor to the Espada in the form of a 2+2 coupe.
Automotive News on Monday published an interview with Lamborghini CEO Stefano Domenicali. In a conversation about Lamborghini's plans to keep up to its 10,000 unit target in the coming year, Domenicali said that the only way to do so was to introduce a fourth model line. Following this Domenicali did not shoot down the idea of a 2+2 Grand Tourer that would succeed the Espada.
In fact, the Italian automaker's boss stated that the brand was eager to launch a fourth model line between 2025 and 2027, adding that the company was looking was working to combine performance with interior space and aerodynamics.
That leaves plenty of time to decide on what the vehicle will be. In October 2017, Lamborghini was reportedly mulling either a 4-seat sports car or a third supercar as the fourth model.
On putting a question about possible electrification of the upcoming model, Domenicali answered with caution that Lamborghini customers weren't exactly clamoured for a battery electric vehicle thus far "but maybe in seven to nine years they will be—and we should be ready," the CEO added.
In November 2017, Automobile had reported about the Italian premiere's plans of a 2+2 GT based on the Porsche Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid. This falls in sync with Domenicali's thoughts on a purely electric 2+2 GT. He noted if Lamborghini goes ahead with a battery-electric model, it would launch alongside a "high-performance plug-in hybrid."
Apart from this, Lamborghini has been holding its cards on the Estoque super sedan which was unveiled to us back in 2008 Paris Motor Show due to the global financial crisis. A V-10 engine shared with Audi
was rumoured for the production car.
