Hyundai Redesigns Elantra For 2019; Adds Safety Features

The 2019 Hyundai Elantra has received a mid-cycle facelift as well as a host of new safety features. It will arrive at dealerships later this year.

What's New?

For 2019 model year, Hyundai has made the Elantra more angular, triangular even. The headlamps and fog lamps are triangles and merge seamlessly into the car's front fascia. The headlamps cut into the wide grille, intersecting with the top slat. The sides of the headlamps also intersect the grille precisely where some of the corners would be. The two hood lines also continue downwards into the vertical slats of the grille. The front end is now radically different and sharper from the previous curvy one.
At the rear, there is not much change, save for slightly revised taillamps and bigger reflectors flanking the new diffuser. However, there is bold new 'Elantra' badging on the trunk lid between the taillamps. The licence plate housing has moved to the bumper. The rest of the car's exterior is untouched. This is strictly personal opinion, but the 2019 Elantra looks a bit pinched up front due to all the angles going on, especially because the profile is untouched and curvy as before. But it still looks rather good with the new front face.

Features?

Except for the base trim, the 2019 Elantra will include safety features like camera-assisted forward collision prevention, lane keeping assist, and driver-attention alert as standard. All trim levels get a 5-inch touchscreen with a rearview camera and dynamic guidelines on the screen. The base SE manual trim now gets Bluetooth connectivity and steering-mounted controls. The top-end Limited variant gets a surround-sound system with 8 speakers and a subwoofer, wireless phone charging, and a Safe Exit Assist that warns the driver and passengers of oncoming cars if the door is open.

What's Unchanged?

The choice of powertrains continues to the 2019 model year Elantra with a naturally aspirated 2.0-liter four-pot motor for the higher-end trims and a 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder for the lower trims. Hyundai is offering no new transmission options for 2019 model year.
Pricing for the 2019 Hyundai Elantra has not been announced yet. The refreshed Elantra will arrive at dealerships later this year, just before which price details will be released.
