The All-New Hyundai Kona Gets An Updated 2024 Model

Hyundai motor company digitally held a world premiere to unveil the all-new 2024 Kona, now presented as an upgraded multiplayer in the subcompact SUV segment. The new Kona retains its iconic character and gets a more rugged look with bigger dimensions and comes with new technologies and features that customer experience.
First Hyundai developed the Kona as an electric vehicle in line with the company’s accelerated electrification strategy announcement that will bring 11 new Hyundai EVs to market by 2030. But the second generation Kona is now available in a wide range of powertrains including EV, hybrid electric (HEV) and internal combustion engine (ICE) variants, and sporty N Line versions of each.

Technical details of the new Hyundai Kona

For the new generation Kona subcompact SUV, Hyundai moved from EV-to-ICE instead of the conventional ICE-to-EV development process.
The new 2024 Kona gets two battery options - a 48.4kWh standard-range battery that delivers 153 horsepower and 255Nm of torque and a 65.4kWh long-range battery that makes 214 horsepower and 255Nm of torque, both the variants available with a two-wheel drive system. The shift-by-wire gear selector has been relocated from the centre console to behind the steering wheel as the part of the new layout.
The Kona ICE variant gets a 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine as standard that produces 147 horsepower and 179Nm of torque, and an optional 1.6-litre four-cylinder turbocharged engine for the N Line variant that makes 195 horsepower and 264Nm of torque, mated to a 7-speed Dual Clutch Transmission with SHIFTRONIC on N Line.
The all-new KONA also packs Hyundai SmartSense Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) and safety systems, including Level 2 autonomous driving, Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA), Blind-spot View Monitor (BVM), Remote Smart Parking Assist (RSPA) and Driver Status Monitor (DSM).

Inside the cabin, Kona features a floating horizontal C-Pad with integrated dual 12.3-inch panoramic display screens and a 12-inch head-up display, that projects information on the windshield, the infotainment system is compatible to receive Over-the-Air (OTA) software updates and is complemented by eight-speaker Bose Premium Sound System.
Kona gets the latest version of Hyundai’s connectivity technology, two USB-C chargers at the front and two at the back and a 12V power outlet. The car also gets a Digital Key 2 Touch and Connected Car Navigation Cockpit (ccNC).
Kona Electric offers EV-specific design elements, including frunk storage, active air flaps, bi-directional onboard charge outlets, i-PEDAL driving mode, Smart Regenerative System, electronic-Active Sound Design (e-ASD) and an Eco Package.
As the dimensions on the outside have increased, the Kona also became more spacious and comfortable from the inside. It gets driver controls around the steering wheel and also gets ambient lighting, which is also supported by OTA updates for maintenance and new features. The new Kona has a Smart Power Tailgate and a fully foldable second-row seat and the rear compartment provides up to 466 litres of storage space at the back and a 27 litres frunk.
Interior colour options include Black Mono, Grey Two-tone, Black and Sage Green, Black and Beige, Black and Red   point (N Line variant only), Dark Gray Mono (Eco pack only)

Exterior details of the all-new 2024 Kona

On the outside, the Kona gets an aerodynamic front and tailgate along with wide projection LED headlamps. sculpted wheel arch armour and parametric surfaces with dynamic chrome lines that connect the belt line to the rear spoiler with an integrated high-mounted stop lamp (HMSL). The aerodynamic elements on the Kona help in achieving a drag coefficient of just 0.27.
The EV variant of the Kona gets a Pixelated Seamless Horizon Lamp and Pixel graphics along with Vivid exterior colours. The N Line variant offers more aggressive front and rear designs with a wing-shaped bumper that enhances the lower stance of the vehicle, it also gets twin exhausts, silver side skirts, black mirrors, a wing-type spoiler and an optional blacked-out roof.
Exterior Colour options include Abyss Black Pearl, Atlas White, Serenity White Pearl, Shimmering Silver  Metallic, Cyber Gray Metallic, Ecotronic Gray Pearl, Ecotronic Gray Matte, Engine Red, Ultimate Red Metallic, Soultronic Orange Pearl, Jupiter Orange Metallic, Neoteric Yellow, Mirage Green, Amazon Gray Metallic, Cypress Green Pearl, Meta Blue Pearl, Denim Blue Pearl, Denim Blue Matte and Sailing Blue Pearl, with the last three scheduled to start mass-production in November 2023.

Range and Charging details of the new Hyundai Kona

The Kona Electric supports 400-volt charging and gets two battery options - a 48.4kWh standard-range battery and a 65.4kWh long-range battery, that can be charged from 10 per cent to 80 per cent in 41 minutes with a fast charger. The long-range option delivers a range of over 490km on a single charge.
