Hennessy Performance Engineering has always been loud about its jaw-dropping modifications on some of the great cars. But how does a Jeep Cherokee taking on a quarter mile in less than 10 seconds sound to you?
A month Hennessy Performance uploaded a video of a Cherokee with the company's HPE1000 pack smoking a stock Ford GT in a quarter mile takedown. The cam on the Ford GT shows how the SUV lunges on the green signal struggling to keep its front wheel on the ground. However, the engineering experts have now come up with the HPE1200 package for the Cherokee that has toppled the previous figures.
The reworked Grand Cherokee Trackhawk puts out a massive 1003bhp of power, coupled with 1209Nm of torque. The engine necessitates 22psi of boost and 109-octane fuel. The engineers at Hennessy has pushed up the power by almost 300bhp, noting that the stock vehicles packs 707bhp from its Hellcat 6.2-litre turbocharged V8 engine.
Hennessy has reworked the engine and dialled up the figures with a 4.5-litre supercharged engine, upgraded pistons, rods, ported cylinder heads, camshaft upgrades and long tube stainless steel headers.
At the quarter-mile mark, the Cherokee finished with a top speed of 233 kph. Additionally, the SUV witnessed triple-digit speed in a demonic 2.3seconds. Jeep was sceptical about the 707hp flowing through all the four wheels. However, the Hennessy team put together a new rear-wheel-drive powertrain with a full-time active transfer case with forged steel chain sprockets and a wider chain.
Hennessy claims that the SUV calls for better traction with the Nitto 555R 275/40-20 drag radial tires. Hennessy developed the rear wheel drive just for track purposes which can be switched to all-wheel-drive with the flick of a switch.
Hennessy has planned to produce 24 units of the monster at the base price of $179,000. However, the price includes a standard Grand Cherokee Trackhawk to undergo the modifications.
