The GMC Sierra is all-new for 2019 and offers a host of features and convenience tech. For its new generation, GMC has redesigned the pickup truck and made it more capable, premium, and fuel-efficient.
The 2019 Sierra is distinguished by the bold design that ties it to the GMC design language. “The next generation Sierra Denali has a deliberate, commanding presence,” said Matt Noone, director of design, GMC Exteriors. “Its unmistakable design embodies the essence of GMC while advancing the brand's core styling elements — rooted in inherent capability — with a new expression of its signature cues.” Sure enough, the 2019 GMC Sierra is larger than the outgoing generation. There is LED lighting all around, and minor nips and tucks all over, but generally, the truck looks handsome and commanding.
There are two variants of the pickup truck, namely Denali and SLT. Apart from the tried-and-tested 6.2-liter and 5.3-liter V8 engines, the 2019 Sierra now gets a new 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six diesel motor paired to a ten-speed automatic transmission.
“GMC ignited the premium truck segment 17 years ago with the original launch of the Sierra Denali,” said Duncan Aldred, vice president of Global GMC. “The next generation 2019 Sierra Denali establishes a new benchmark in capability and refinement. It exemplifies precision in every detail.” To affirm its status as a premium contender in its segment, the Sierra gets a host of features, advanced technology, as well as cutting-edge powertrain management systems.
For example, the engines of the 2019 Sierra feature cylinder deactivation tech (GMC calls it Dynamic Fuel Management) which presides over the combustion of all cylinders and chooses which ones to shut down for optimum fuel-efficiency. The Sierra Denali which sits at the top of the range also gets adaptive suspension that reads oncoming terrain and adjusts the active dampers every 2 milliseconds.
Inside, it gets premium upholstery and choice of materials, a good infotainment system controlled via an 8-inch touchscreen unit, a suite of safety tech including features like Side Blind Zone Alert, Low Speed Forward Automatic Braking, and Pedestrian Detection. Additionally, it boasts of a nifty dual-function interior mirror that is zoom and tilt enabled and provides an unobstructed view of the rear bay. There is also a 3x7-inch HUD that shows vital information on the windscreen, making the Sierra the first full-size pickup truck to do so.
The tailgate of the big pickup has six unique functions and positions that offer enhanced second-tier loading and load-stop solutions, a standing workstation and easier access to items in the box. In an industry-first move, GMC has given the Sierra a carbon fiber pickup box that automatically makes it the lightest, toughest, and most reliable loading tub out there.
The 2019 GMC Sierra is available for sale in the UAE and will go up against rivals like the Toyota Hilux, Ford F-150, RAM trucks, and more.
