First showcased at the 2017 Dubai International Motor Show, the Genesis G70 is finally here to add to the lineup of Genesis saloons.
The Genesis G70 serves as the entry-level model wearing the badge of the South Korean luxury automaker. Together with the larger G90 as well as the G80 and G80 Sport, the saloon range of the firm is now complete. Entry level does not necessarily have to mean bare-basic, and the G70 is visual proof of the fact, with its front fascia resembling its larger siblings. A long bonnet, flowing roofline and fancy alloy rims add to the character of the midsize saloon, keeping it relevant, desirable even in the burgeoning automobile segment it plays in.
Genesis has two motors on offer powering the G70. You can either choose between a Lambda II 3.3-liter V6 petrol engine, or the Theta 2.0-liter turbocharged four-pot diesel. The petrol motor produces 365 hp and 510 Nm which powers the rear wheels, while the diesel makes a decent 249 hp and 353 Nm torque. An eight-speed automatic transmission is standard affair on both choices of engines, with an optional all-wheel-drive system as a distinct possibility. Powered by the petrol motor, the Genesis G70 hits the 100 kph mark in 4.7 seconds and tops out at 270 kph. Pretty respectful numbers for the car, to be honest.
Inside, the G70 is loaded to the gills with safety, infotainment, and driver assistance systems. The most prominent feature when it comes to the interiors is an eight-inch touchscreen infotainment system with MirrorLink, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Lexicon provides the tunes with its elaborate 15-speaker sound system. There is also an available wireless charging pad and an optional heads-up display. There is a cohesive safety net consisting of systems like Blind Spot Collision Warning, Driver Awareness Warning, Forward Collision Avoidance Assist, and seven airbags around the cabin.
At the time of writing this piece, there is no information on the pricing from Genesis.
