BMW Updates Battery Capacity On The New i3 And i3S
Amid an ambitious surge in the electrified segment of the company, BMW has now updated a card in its portfolio and added a few features to the i3. To make the vehicle more practical, the company has replaced the old battery pack on the EV with a new denser one.
The cell capacity on the new i3 has gone up from 94Ah to 120Ah increasing the battery capacity to 42.2kWh which is almost double the capacity of the original model that was launched in 2014.
The company claims that the new battery was developed in partnership with Samsung and sits in the same spot as the previous one. While the performance output remains the same, the range of the car is now claimed to be 310km a push of 34 miles than its previous iteration. However, the company also claims that the car can further go 40 km making the range up to 350km.
The i3 sports delivers the same output like before with a claimed 0-100kph in 7.3 seconds for the i3 and 6.9 seconds for the i3s. BMW claims that the new battery will take about 15 hours if plugged into a household 2.4kW three-pin plug, 3.2 hours using the BMW I Wallbox and about 42 minutes with the help of a 50kW quick-recharge station to reach 80 per cent.
The standard model on the new i3 is provided with an optional Sports Package with a wider track an 10mm lower sports suspension equipped on the i3s, plus 20-inch alloy wheels finished in gloss black.
Further changes on the new i3 include a new metallic beige and grey body colour along with new interior upholstery options. The car also gets updated iDrive infotainment systems with a new menu layout along with adaptive LED headlights. The company has not revealed the price bracket of the updated models that are expected to hit the showrooms by November.
