Audi 2.5 TFSI Is The Engine Of The Year Once Again
Audi once again bags in the International Engine of the Year Award. It's the company's revolutionary 2.5 TFSI engine that has won the award for the ninth time in a row.
The International Engine of the Year Awards started in 1999 and has been conducted annually ever since. A jury of 65 motorsport journalists select the best engines of the year in a number of different categories.
Speaking on winning the award once again, Oliver Hoffmann, Head of Technical Development at Audi Sport GmbH, said, “The five-cylinder has been an icon of our brand for more than 40 years. Two years ago we completely redesigned the 2.5 TFSI and changed the crankcase to an aluminum version.”
The 2.5 TFSI engine was praised for its immense power - 400 hp - which is the highest in the series-production 5-cylinder global market. Also, the groundbreaking torque of 480 Nm is available from as low as 1,700 revs.
The engine also produces a unique sound that has mesmerized many of us over its years of existence. Audi says that this has been possible by neighboring cylinders firing alternately to more distant cylinders, resulting in a unique rhythm.
Audi has incorporated its magnificent 2.5 TFSI engine in cars like the Audi TT RS Coupe, TT RS Roadster, Audi RS 3 Sedan and the RS 3 Sportback. The TT RS and TT RS Roadster accelerate from 0 to 100 kph in 3.7 and 3.9 seconds respectively, whereas the RS 3 Sedan and RS 3 Sportback does the sprint in 4.1 seconds. The top speed of all the four cars is 250 kph as standard.
