Aston Martin has revealed the design of the new Valkyrie AMR Pro, which it calls an 'improved' version of the original Valkyrie. However, this one won't be a road-legal car and meant for track-use only. And since it is going to be a track-focused machine, Aston Martin wasn't bounded by the numerous limitations that it had to follow to make the original Valkyrie and hence, the result is astonishing.
Just like its mother, the Valkyrie AMR Pro is designed by Adrian Newey, Red Bull Racing's Chief Technical Officer and the world's most successful F1 designer. Every single detail of the original model has been revised to extract out the maximum. The new design has got larger front and rear wing elements. The bodywork features even lighter carbon fibre, and there are new suspension uprights and carbon fibre wishbones. The size of the wheels has been reduced to 18 inches to fit the Michelin racing tyres, which are used by cars in the top tier of the World Endurance Championship.
The interiors of the AMR Pro are designed only for the necessities. You won't find an infotainment system or an automatic climate control, etc. in here. The seats are moulded race units and the windscreen is made up of polycarbonate. All this has been done to reduce weight. This is what proper track-only machines are. They don't need luxury. All they need to do is go as fast as possible around a track and that's how they're designed.
Aston Martin has not provided details regarding the power figures of the Valkyrie AMR Pro. But, since the original model had a 6.5 litre, naturally aspirated, Cosworth V12 and had a whopping 1130 hp and weighed a mere 1030 kg, the Pro will be much, much more performance oriented.
Adrian Newey says, “It has always been vitally important to me that the Valkyrie functions well as a true road car, and that naturally comes with some constraints. However, with the track-only Valkyrie AMR Pro, we have the freedom to create an extreme evolution that makes no such concessions. It offers a level of track performance significantly beyond any previous two-seat closed roof car.”
Andy Palmer said, “The road car will set new benchmarks for performance, engineering and technology. With the track only Valkyrie AMR Pro, those limits will be pushed further still. It's a remarkable project.”
As per the latest details, only 25 units of the Valkyrie AMR Pro will be made. Who knows they might already be sold, eh.
