If you thought Aston Martin's DBS Superleggera was a piece of art, wait till you see its derivative special edition, DBS 59. With just 24 units exiting the production ramp, Aston Martin has chosen the two numbers in its name as a sign of its unforgotten history.
The British manufacturer will produce the car to commemorate its 1-2 finish at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1959. The DBS Superleggera comes with a range of styling tweaks that traces back to the victorious DBR1 racers, evident from the iconic Aston Martin Racing Green exterior paint. Inheriting the mantra of lightweight from the Superleggera, the DBS 59 sports a carbon fibre finished-roof and rear lip spoiler.
Apart from that, the car also features special graphics, a Union Flag Aston Martin logo and a numbered roundel on the front wing which denotes the model number of the limited run.
Inside the cabin, the DBS 59 sports a mix of tan and black leather stitched together with contrasting bronze thread. The headrests of the seats are stitched with the '59' logos with a bronze thread complementing the bronze-finished paddles. Both the seat backs and the door inserts are finished in a fabric inspired by the DBR1.
One of the most unique features of the car, however, is its unusual headlining. According to an Aston Martin spokesperson; “the DBS 59 features a unique headlining, showcasing the iconic DBR1 as it races on the track. Using Q by Aston Martin's printed leather option, the design creates a striking visual throughout the car's interior”.
Aston Martin will provide each of the models with a range of exclusive accessories that the buyers can choose from. This includes a rear compartment furnished with helmet pods to hold bespoke DBS 59 crash helmets, and a retro race suit and gloves.
Mechanically, the DBS 59 remains the same as the Superleggera with the same 715bhp twin-turbocharged V12 engine that lets the car see triple digit speeds in 3.7 seconds with a top speed of 339kph.
