Aston Martin has commenced real-world testing of its first SUV. Being the first ever SUV in its line-up, the DBX I expected to be one of the most important models for the British Manufacturer.
The car has been scheduled for a 2020 launch in Aston's planner and will most likely be unveiled by next year. A few spy shots of the test mule confirms that the upcoming vehicle will look nothing like the concept that was brought to us in 2015 at the Geneva Motor Show. We, however, expected the 3-door high-seated vehicle to be more of a statement of intent rather than concrete plans of the company.
While most of the details have been hidden under the mule's heavy camouflage, we now know the overall shape of the five-door SUV. If Aston wishes to push the same model for production, we can see that the rear of the car is a nod to the company's grand tourer line-up and the steeply raked rear window is retained from the DBX's coupe shape.
The front of the car is visible takes on the new family face that was first seen on the latest Vantage. For the SUVs powertrain, Aston Martin has steered clear of any sort of electrification. We also know that the engine under to hood of the new SUV is most likely to be a 4.0-litre engine. The upcoming SUV will sport Aston's twin-turbocharged 'hot vee' V8 that has already seen service in the Vantage and DB11 V8. We can expect a hybrid version of the car in the coming years as the company has set out plans to electrify its entire line-up, with hybrid or pure-electric variants of every model planned by 2025.
