Japanese manufacturer Lexus has confirmed it will introduce the new-gen 2021 Lexus IS on June 10. The fourth-generation compact luxury sedan will make a virtual debut at 3:00 am GST.
Lexus teased a preview of the car shrouded in dark with the lights laid bare. The DRL signature is striking, to say the least. Spanning the entire width of the car, the new lighting should lend the sedan a distinct identity.
Little else is known about the new Lexus IS. We can speculate that Lexus might underpin the car with its new TNGA-L architecture in place of the outgoing IS's older platform. The current Lexus IS in the UAE goes up against cars like Jagua XE, Infiniti Q50, Mercedes-Benz C-Class, and BMW 3 Series.
The Japanese automaker sells the IS here with prices beginning from AED 150,000 for the entry-level 'Premier' trim. For the money, you get a compact luxury sedan with a turbocharged 2.0-litre inline-four motor putting down 241hp and 350Nm. Rear wheels are powered via either a 6-speed or 8-speed automatic gearbox. However, what is most interesting is that Lexus could offer a new powertrain with the 2020 IS.
By new, we mean an existing motor retuned to deliver higher output. The current range-topping 3.5-litre V6 could be fettled to produce 416hp and 599Nm. Under the current Lexus IS's hood, the motor is good for 306hp and 375Nm. We will update this section as we hear more news on the sedan in a day.
