The second round of the 2017 Emirates Schools Karting Championship came to an end on 10 Dec 2017. It was an amazing round as all the participants performed magnificently.
Marcus Lee Marker, Jordy Van Dort and Ethan Watt, drivers of VDR Racing, grasped their first win of the season, whereas it were Ibrahim Yaqub, Ethan Pearce and Roberto Pereira from Dubai College who topped.
In the Nomad class (for teams with students from different schools racing together), VDR Racing led the way, earning a comfortable victory on the night.
Ghost Racing had Mateo Moussaoui, Sameer Mohideen and Samuel Garbutt as its drivers and it was defending its championship title. It took the pole position in the qualifying by setting a lap time of 1:10.534 and managed to be ahead of VDR racing by mere 0.174 seconds. However, in the main race, Ghost Racing couldn't perform as flawlessly as it did in the qualifying and it was VDR racing who took the lead.
VDR racing demonstrated solid driving and precision pit strategy on the way to victory. The team demolished the field and cruised across the finish line a full 45.527 seconds ahead of JESS Nomad Team, with Ghost Racing next in line to take third place.
Marcus Lee Marker, said, “It was a good race. Everything went smoothly.” The overall and class victory boosts VDR Racing into the Nomad championship lead with 64 points, just three points ahead of Ghost Racing on 61 points. JESS Nomad Team currently holds third position with 58 points.
Finishing in fourth place overall, Dubai College was the first of the ESKC class teams to see the
chequered flag. They finished out 9.972 seconds ahead of class leader Swiss International Scientific Dubai (SISD) Senior. Jumeirah English Speaking School (JESS) Arabian Ranches claimed sixth overall and third in class. Despite a second-place finish in class, SISD Senior, with drivers Constantin Reisch, Paul Seefeld, Hakon Lees and Yannick Kappeler, has 60 points and still leads the championship in the ESKC class. Just one point back, Dubai English Speaking College Team 6 is currently in second place with 59 points. JESS Arabian Ranches is hanging on to third place with 52 points.
We're looking forward to the third round of the Senior ESKC. It is scheduled to take place on 22 Jan, 2018.
