Mitsubishi has confirmed that the Pajero is coming back. The nameplate was retired from international markets in 2021, and an all-new, fifth-generation model is set for its world premiere this autumn. For the UAE, where the Pajero spent three decades as a default choice for families who also drove off-road, it is the most interesting Mitsubishi announcement in years.

What Mitsubishi Has Confirmed
Three things come from Mitsubishi Motors' own announcements rather than from previews.
It is a ladder-frame SUV, built on the Triton's frame. Mitsubishi describes it as riding on the "highly robust and durable ladder frame" of the Triton pick-up, with model-specific development of the cabin and of the front and rear suspension. A separate chassis rather than a monocoque is the traditional answer for towing and sustained rough-road work, and it is what the outgoing Pajero used.
It uses Super-All Wheel Control. Mitsubishi names S-AWC, its integrated vehicle dynamics system, which the company describes as optimising "handling, off-road capability and stability across diverse driving scenarios".
The world premiere is this autumn. Mitsubishi announced the debut window in May 2026 and has been releasing details in stages since.
The images Mitsubishi has released so far show an upright, squared-off body with a near-vertical tailgate, a three-row cabin, and a dashboard carrying twin digital displays alongside a rotary terrain selector on the centre console – the physical control that a set of surface-specific drive modes implies. The interior shots released to date are of a right-hand-drive car.
What Has Been Reported, But Not Yet Confirmed
The following figures come from coverage ahead of the reveal rather than from Mitsubishi. Treat them as strong indications rather than specifications until the premiere.
- A 2.4-litre diesel producing 480 Nm of torque, paired with an eight-speed torque-converter automatic. A power figure has not been published anywhere we can verify.
- Four-wheel drive with a low-range transfer case and four settings: 2H, 4H, 4HLc and 4LLc.
- Seven drive modes – Normal, Eco, Gravel, Snow, Mud, Sand and Rock.
- Double-wishbone front suspension and a five-link rigid rear axle.
- A 2,870 mm wheelbase and 230 mm of ground clearance, with approach, breakover and departure angles of 30.4, 22.6 and 25.8 degrees.
Two of those matter more than the rest in this region. A Sand mode and a low-range transfer case are the specific hardware that dune driving asks for, and 230 mm of clearance with a 25.8-degree departure angle describes a vehicle designed to leave a soft descent without dragging its rear bumper.
What This Means for UAE Buyers
Mitsubishi has not announced Middle East availability. That is the honest position today: no confirmation that the new Pajero is coming to the UAE, no timing, and no price. Anyone quoting you a UAE launch date or figure right now is guessing, and we will not.
What we can tell you is what the alternatives cost while you wait.
