The Volkswagen ID.4 has been crowned the World Car of the Year 2021 and was voted for by a panel of 93 judges coming from more than 20 countries. Everyone was full of praise for the ID.4 with its spacious interior and clever EV tech taking centre-stage.

In order to qualify for becoming the World Car of the Year, 10,000 units of the car must be produced and it must cost below the luxury-car level in their primary markets.

We are particularly pleased about our ID.4 being named World Car of the Year”, says Ralf Brandst¤tter, CEO of Volkswagen. “Not only because it is one of the most important car awards in the world – but because the jury also honoured a great idea and a great team. The first ID. Model for the key markets of Europe, China and the U.S. carries our electric offensive around the world. A convincing car, a great idea – and the World Car of the Year award? That goes well together for us!

That’s not all as another EV – the Honda E – finished second in the Car of the Year crown and took home the World Urban Car award. The car’s striking looks, small size and fast charging battery helped it take home the award.

Tom Gardner, Senior Vice President, Honda Motor Europe said, “I would like to say thank you for this award, reflecting the hard work and dedication of our engineering teams. We are delighted with the results and for the continuing support of the World Car Of The Year organisation.”
