Dirty Vehicles On Dubai Roads To Attract Fine

Dubai Municipality has begun issuing fines of AED 500 to motorists who do not keep their vehicles clean. The move is in a bid to maintain the image of the lavish metropolis that Dubai has garnered.

In a recent official statement, Dubai Municipality said that motorists who do not wash their vehicles and keep them in a presentable condition tarnish the aesthetic appearance of the city and risk being fined for doing so. The first step of the process includes identifying whether a vehicle meets the conditions of being unclean. If it does, a violation notice will be issued with a warning sticker on the glass. Drivers will then have 15 days from the notice to get their vehicles presentable again.

Failing to comply with the stipulations will result in the unclean vehicles being confiscated and shipped to the scrap yard. If the motorists still refuse to settle up the fines, the impounded cars will be sold at an auction to recover the fines.

Speaking about the new regulation, Abdul Majeed Abdul Aziz Al Saifie, Director of waste management department, Dubai Municipality, had this to say: “When we talk about dirty cars, it is important to note that the warning does not extend to vehicles with light dirt around the tires and some sand or dust around the body. Authorities target vehicles that have been unwashed for months at an end, with the vehicle’s color being under question.”

Abu Dhabi also commenced fining vehicles that are not seen as presentable earlier, issuing as many as 1,073 fines and warnings to motorists regarding the cleanliness of their vehicles in the first five months of 2018. The Abu Dhabi Municipality imposed the fines across all residential and commercial areas under its jurisdiction, and urged motorists to regularly wash their vehicles.
