The Audi e-Tron, on Monday, found its way into the showrooms after entering the production lines earlier this month. The company on Monday showcased its first electric SUV marking its focus on shifting to an electrified lineup in the coming years.

The new full electric SUV will sit between the Q5 and the Q7. Needless to say that Audi has gone the extra mile to make its first electric project impressive. The SUV is powered by two electric motors that have been placed at a lower position in the centre citing a sporty performance.

Trying to reach out to buyers as an ideal electric SUV, the company claims that the new battery is designed for a longer range making it practical for everyday use. Audi has utilized the Electrohydraulic Brake System in the new e-Tron becoming the first one to use it on a series production vehicle.

The mid-size SUV carries a big 95-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery that, reports suggest, provides a range of close to 400km. However, the company has not provided official results, awaiting results from the EPA testing. The battery has a nominal 396-voltage rating that can handle up to 150-kilowatts of fast charging. According to the company, 80 per cent of the battery can be charged under 30 minutes at a public fast charge station.

Audi has not given the exact output figures for its new SUV, however, reports suggest that it will likely be able to produce close to 400hp and 664Nm of torque. The two electric motors are placed at either axle with the front wheel a mere power adder that can be used in need of power. The company claims that the SUV can see triple digit speeds in not more than 5.5 seconds with a top speed of 200kph.

The e-Tron, according to Audi, excels in aerodynamics being a result of a close collaboration between its exterior designers and the aerodynamics experts. The new SUV sports an array of high-tech efficiency solutions such as a regulated cooling air inlet with ducts for cooling the front brakes and the adaptive, speed-dependent air suspension provided as standard on the e-Tron.

The interiors of the car do not lag behind either. The e-Tron sports two digital displays each for an instrument cluster and an infotainment hub.

The e-Tron will join the short list of electric SUVs in the market and put up a competition against the Jaguar I-Pace, Tesla Model X and the Mercedes-Benz EQC.
