At its latest “Power of launch event in Abu Dhabi, Honda pulled the wraps off three new products. The Honda CR-V and HR-V are new for 2019, while the Pilot receives a midlife update.
Let's take a look at all the three newly launched cars from the Japanese automaker, starting with the new ones.
2019 Honda CR-V
One of Honda's most popular cars in the UAE, the CR-V gets new powertrains and chassis for 2019. A 2.4-litre DOHC i-VTEC motor powering the Honda CR-V puts out 184hp and 244Nm through a CVT gearbox. Honda claims a fuel efficiency of 15.5kpl for the base trims and 14.7kpl for the EX and Touring variants.For 2019, the Honda CR-V gets LED lighting with a mean streak.
For 2019, the Honda CR-V gets LED lighting, new suspension, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a choice between 17-inch and 18-inch based on trim, FWD or AWD again depending on trim, and a host of other major and minor changes all around.
As for safety, you can be assured the Honda CR-V is one of the best safety-packed cars in its segment with traction control, vehicle stability assist, ABS, EBD, handling assist, TPMS, and hill start assist. LX, EX, and Touring trims get rear parking sensors.
2019 Honda HR-V
The Honda HR-V is a compact, stylish urban crossover that gets a 1.8-litre i-VTEC petrol mill generating 140hp and 172Nm. Honda claims a fuel economy of 16.9kpl for this crossover. The CVT-equipped HR-V comes with paddle shifters. Honda states the new gearbox features revised shift mapping that resembles the stepped gear changes of a conventional fixed-gear transmission under hard acceleration.The 2019 Honda HR-V gets smarter and safer in its new avatar.
Inside, the 2019 Honda HR-V is feature-packed with a touchscreen infotainment system, multifunction steering wheel, automatic climate control (EX Grade trim), and Display Audio screen. Honda has placed the HR-V's fuel tank in its chassis to manage weight distribution and centralize mass. The crossover's excellent dynamics are complemented by a web of safety systems like vehicle stability assist, traction control, standard driver and passenger front airbags, side and side curtain airbags on the EX grade only.
Electronics like EBD, TPMS, hill start assist, along with Honda's next-gen Advanced Compatibility Engineering (ACE) body structure, make the Honda HR-V safe and smart. The EX Grade even features a multi-angle rearview camera with a wide-view feature.
2019 Honda Pilot
Honda unveiled the tweaked Pilot with a more aggressive design, new hands-free powered tailgate, substantial powertrain refinements, upgrades to connectivity technology, and an available new Display Audio touchscreen infotainment system.The 2019 Honda Pilot receives extensive tweaks to last a couple more years before a new-gen Pilot replaces it.
The engine powering the Pilot remains the same as before: a 3.5-litre V6 paired with a refined six-speed automatic transmission, delivering 280hp and 355Nm. Honda has generously equipped the pilot with an electronic safety suite. Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS) with forwarding Collision Warning; Road Departure Mitigation (RDM); Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS); Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Blind Spot Information System (BSI) and Rear Cross-Traffic Monitor are all standard features.
