Hardcore 2019 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE Revealed
General Motors has revealed the new 2019 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE, offering an optional updated version of its 10-speed automatic gearbox. With the optional update, Chevrolet claims the car will be “several seconds” faster than the six-speed manual-equipped car on long tracks like the iconic Nurburgring.
What’s gone into making the Camaro ZL1 1Le faster?
Chevrolet has massaged the transmission, performance traction management system, and the electronic limited-slip differential for better performance. The 2019 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE also gets recalibrated Mutlimatic DSSV (Dynamic Suspension Spool Valve) dampers to cope with quicker gear shifts. Steve Majoros, director of Chevrolet passenger car and crossover marketing, explained: “Adding an automatic transmission is another example of the Camaro Portfolio delivering what customers want. This ultimate 1LE is another appealing option that is true to its racing heritage.”
The 1LE package also nets your Camaro ZL1 a carbon rear wing, lightweight forged alloys, and a fixed rear bench. Other bits and bobs including these components result in a weight loss of 22.6 kilos.
What’s unchanged on the Camaro?
For starters, the engine is untouched. It is a 6.2-litre supercharged V8 motor producing 650hp and 881Nm. Paired with the aforementioned 10-speed automatic, all the power and torque is sent to the rear wheels. Then there are adjustable front-end ride height and camber plates, a three-way adjustable rear stabilizer bar, and a host of safety and driver assistance systems carried over from the standard – if we can call it that – Camaro ZL1 Coupe.
The 2019 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE arrives before the Camaro goes under the scalpel for a facelift. Its bowtie logo is in the right place and no longer an eyesore.
