Volkswagen has unveiled the ID.3 facelift two and a half years after the launch of the first-generation model. The 2023 ID.3 facelift now carries a refreshed sharper design elements on the outside, uses higher-quality materials on the inside and offers numerous new features and the latest software. The facelift has been updated keeping a high focus on customer feedback.

Exterior updates on the new ID.3 facelift

The all-new ID.3' exterior gets sharper design elements which also enhance the aerodynamics of the car. The car now sports a new front bumper, the bonnet looks longer now as the black strip under the windscreen was removed and the sides were extended. The new air curtain also contributes to the improved aero of the car. At the rear, the two-part split tail lights enhance the look of the all-electric hatchback.
The range of colours has also been extended by new colours, including Dark Olivine Green. High-quality, animal-free and sustainable materials reflect Volkswagen’s strategy for the all-electric ID. family.

Interior updates on the 2023 VW ID.3 facelift

The new ID.3 features a 12-inch infotainment touchscreen display placed at the centre of the dashboard, which now comes as standard. The car also gets a compact driver display measuring 5.3 inches diagonally and is controlled by the multifunction steering wheel. The electric hatchback gets the latest generation ID software package that enhances the system performance and is able to receive over-the-air updates.
The Volkswagen ID.3 facelift brings an optional augmented reality head-up display (AR head-up display) that shows information such as the speed and navigation instructions. For the driver, this information on the head-up display appears to be 10 meters in front of the vehicle.
The charging menu is now placed on the first level of the touch display is among the various improvements to the layout made keeping customer wishes into account when designing the menu structure.
The interior of the new ID.3 uses sustainable materials. The modern interior comes in contrasting colour stitching. The material used by VW for the door trims and seat covers is a microfibre fabric made from recycled plastic called Artvelours Eco. The look, feel, and durability of Artvelours Eco are similar to those of conventional new materials. The interior equipment is also completely cruelty-free/animal-free.
Customer feedback has been paid special attention and numerous suggestions were collected and implemented in order to enhance the standard equipment package. The cockpit now offers a new tactile sensation with its plush, foam-cushioned surfaces. Likewise, the updated interior door linings feature expanded, velvety textures.

Technical updates on the Volkswagen ID.3 facelift

The facelifted ID.3 technically remains unchanged and continues with the previously available powertrain options which are based on the modular electric drive (MEB) platform.
The base version of the ID.3 gets a  single electric rear-mounted motor that produces 150 horsepower and 310 Nm of torque. There are also higher-performance versions of the ID.3, which are available with a dual-motor setup that produces 204 horsepower and 310 Nm of torque, while the top-of-the-line ID.3 GTX model has a dual-motor setup that generates 295 horsepower and 460 Nm of torque.
The updated ID.3 now features an optional Travel Assist that expands the vehicle's capabilities using swarm data along with adaptive cruise control and Lane Assist. Swarm data enables Travel Assist to keep the car in its lane on rural roads with just one detected lane marking.
The new ID.3 comes with a lithium-ion battery pack that has a capacity of 58 kWh, which provides an estimated range of up to 423 km on a single charge.

Charging and Route planner in the 2023 VW ID.3 facelift

Volkswagen has made charging the new ID.3 easier with the plug and Charge function, which enables the car to authenticate itself and begin charging when the charging cable is connected. On longer journeys, the Electric Vehicle Route Planner calculates charging stops so that the destination can be reached as quickly as possible, by using the current traffic data, forecasts and battery charge level. The charging stops are evaluated dynamically based on the capacity of each unique charging station.
The Volkswagen ID.3 has a variety of charging options available. The standard charging capacity is 7.2 kW, which can provide a full charge in approximately 7.5 hours. however, when using a DC fast charger with a charging capacity of 100 kW, the ID.3 can charge from 5 per cent to 80 per cent in approx 35 minutes. If using a 50 kW charging station, the same charge can be achieved in approximately an hour. Additionally, the ID.3 can also be charged using a three-point household outlet, but it would be much slower than a dedicated EV charging station.
Since the launch of ID. family cars, Volkswagen has accomplished its goal of providing zero-emission, software-based mobility. Till now the german manufacturer has delivered 600,000 ID. models worldwide. Volkswagen now offers six ID. models in the current line-up. In addition to being built in Zwickau and Dresden, the new ID.3 will also be manufactured in the parent facility in Wolfsburg starting in the fall of 2023.

A word from the Volkswagen Officials

Imelda Labbé, Member of the Board of Management for Sales, Marketing and After Sales at Volkswagen said, “With the second generation of the ID.3, we are continuing the success story of our ID. family. The design has matured and the materials in the interior have been significantly upgraded. The new ID.3 demonstrates our clear commitment to quality, design and operability, and we have systematically taken on board the wishes of our customers.” The new ID.3 is one of ten electric models that VW will launch by 2026.
Kai Grünitz, a Member of the Brand Board of Management responsible for Development said, “With the new ID.3 we are bringing premium technologies into the compact class – in line with our Volkswagen goal of successively offering innovations in the whole model range. This is also reflected in the latest-generation convenience and assistance systems in the ID.3. By using swarm data in the Travel Assist system, we are taking the next step on the path to highly automated driving.”
