2021 Kia Sorento: What Else Can You Buy?
Kia recently released photos of the next-generation Sorento, and it does look the business. Kia might sell the new Sorento at a slight premium over the current model. However, it is quite some time away. In the meanwhile, what else is in the market for the same money that gets you a Kia Sorento?

Hyundai Tucson

Sure, the Hyundai Tucson might share its platform with the Kia Sorento. But the Tucson offers a vastly different driving and features package. Wearing Hyundai's original Fluidic 2.0 Storm Edge design, this crossover slots in below the Santa Fe. It features an aggressive front fascia, sharp tail end, and well-arranged LED lighting all around. Powering the car is a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder motor that puts out 152hp and 192Nm.
The Hyundai Tucson offers you the biggest boot compared to its competition, without skimping out on passenger space. Hyundai is well-known for offering tons of features at very competitive price points as compared to rival carmakers. The Tucson falls in line, offering a host of technology for comfort, convenience, and safety.
Occupants of the car can breathe easy for the SUV gets ABS, traction control, six airbags, parking sensors, rear parking camera, TPMS, and adaptive cruise control as standard. The 2020 Hyundai Tucson starts from AED 82,550 for the base 2.0 Mpi trim. Juma Al Majid Group of Companies is the authorised importer and distributor of Hyundai cars in Dubai, Sharjah, and the Northern Emirates.

Nissan X-Trail

The Nissan X-Trail can be easily lost in a sea of cars like Toyota RAV4 and Hyundai Tucson. However, it still packs quite a punch. Offering a lot of value for its money, the dinky crossover also makes sure owners get one of the most reliable cars in the segment. At its heart is a 2.5-litre inline-four engine producing 170hp and 233Nm. Mated to a CVT, the horses turn the front wheels.
Featuring the signature Nissan V-Motion grille, the X-Trail is a well-put-together SUV with the right proportions. The visual balance is carried forward on the inside. The dashboard is clean and uncluttered. It and the centre console are both driver-focused. Dual-tone upholstery lightens up the interiors, while technology keeps occupants satisfied. The two-row SUV is also big on safety along with creature comforts.
Nissan has equipped the X-Trail with six airbags, ABS, traction control, cruise control, TPMS, hill start assist, and rear parking sensors. The Japanese SUV misses out on rear parking camera for the entry-level variant. The 2020 Nissan X-Trail starts from AED 89,350 for the base S trim. Arabian Automobiles, subsidiary of the AW Rostamani Group, is the official importer and distributor of Nissan cars in the UAE.

Chevrolet Equinox

Chevrolet has perfected the art of the SUV, as can be seen from its handsome offerings in the UAE. One of them is the Chevy Equinox. Although it packs a smaller engine than its rivals at 1.5 litres of displacement, output is evenly matched. The turbo-petrol is capable of 170hp and 275Nm. Power is fed to the front wheels through a 6-speed automatic gearbox.
American cars do like their little quirks, which is why the Equinox features a CD player! A multi-information display assists the driver, set in the middle of a curvy dashboard. The centre console and dashboard feature an array of user-friendly controls. Chevrolet has chosen to give the Equinox's cabin a predominantly dark interior.
As for safety, the Chevrolet Equinox comes with ABS, traction control, six airbags, TPMS, cruise control, hill start assist, and rear parking sensors. Seating five in comfort and safety, this American SUV is a great alternative to the 2021 Kia Sorento. The 2020 Chevrolet Equinox starts from AED 89,350 for the LS trim. Al Ghandi Auto Group is the official importer and distributor of Chevrolet cars in Dubai, Sharjah, and the Northern Emirates.

Mazda CX-5

Mazda makes good cars, no doubt about that. The CX-5 is another underdog that is hidden behind bestsellers like the Kia Sorento. However, the CX-5 is a capable crossover with the right mix of luxury, performance, and technology. Under its hood is a 2.5-litre inline-four motor sending 188hp and 251Nm to the front wheels. Top-spec trims get AWD as well.
Inside, Mazda has made clear its focus on the driver. The Kirk chair is surrounded by controls that perform various tasks throughout the car.  A black interior with tasteful chrome garnishes presents a striking, rich effect. Passengers are cocooned in luxury and modern amenities. The CX-5 features enough creature comforts to make the cabin a convenient space to be in. It is actually the 2021 Kia Sorento that has caught up with the Mazda in terms of design.
The Mazda CX-5's safety and driver assistance features are on par with the competition. However, the base trim loses out on cruise control. But it is still the most powerful SUV in its segment. The 2020 Mazda CX-5 can be yours from AED 86,650 for the GS trim. Galadari Automobiles is the official importer and distributor for Mazda cars in the UAE.

Toyota RAV4

Last, but not the least, is the successful Toyota RAV4. For the price of a 2021 Kia Sorento, you can buy a well-appointed trim of the urban crossover. Typical of Toyota, the RAV4 boasts of quality build and materials, hiding behind an aggressive, sharp design. The Japanese SUV offers two choices of motor: a 1.3-litre four-cylinder motor, and a 2.5-litre inline-four that goes up directly against the 2021 Kia Sorento. The 2.5-litre motor is good for 177hp and 238Nm.
Toyota does not believe in overdoing the interiors of its cars. Which is why the RAV4 features a plain, uncluttered cabin. All the necessary controls are bracketed in a silver nacelle surrounding the centre console. The dashboard gets an infotainment screen with available Android Auto or Apple CarPlay updates. Seating five in comfort, the RAV4 also has decent cargo space.
The base EX trim of the SUV misses out on cruise control, but the car more than makes up for it in the safety department. And lest we forget, the segment leader is also the highest-quality product in its segment. The 2020 Toyota RAV4 starts from AED 92,250 for the EX trim (omitting the 1.3L trim) in the UAE. Al Futtaim Automotive is the official importer and distributor of Toyota cars in the UAE.
