Volvo’s First Fully Electric Vehicle Could Be The XC40

We all are aware of Volvo’s commitment towards electric vehicles. It has already got hybrid vehicles in its product line up and is planning to electrify its entire product range. Volvo has clearly stated that it’s very serious about electric cars, and is one of the few car manufacturers which is heading towards an electric future at a fast pace.

Volvo recently launched its brand-new S60 in the USA. At the launch, Volvo design chief, Thomas Ingenlath, revealed that Volvo is working really hard to launch a fully electric vehicle in the market. The first fully electric car from Volvo will be the XC40. It could enter production by 2021. Apart from the XC40, the eldest XC90, too, will have a fully electric variant in the future.

Volvo’s electric performance sub-brand, Polestar, has to launch its second electric vehicle in 2019. Volvo is planning to unveil its fully electric XC40 after this. Both SUVs, the Volvo XC40 EV and XC90 will be manufactured at the South Carolina plant in the USA.

As of now, Volvo hasn’t released any detailed in information about its XC40 EV but it’s expected to have a range of approx 500 km in a single charge. Volvo’s dedication towards a greener future is commendable. Instead of building an entirely new electric vehicle from scratch, Volvo plans to bring in an electric variant of its existing models.
