After spinning off from parent company Volvo and making its own name as a performance electric car manufacturer, Polestar was captured in its home ground putting final touches on its first production automobile, the Polestar 1.

Polestar, ward of Chinese automotive holding Geely, revealed its first model, the all-electric 600-hp coupe called the Polestar 1 back in October 2017. Since then, the company has been unusually quiet and cagey about its new car, except for a showcasing in Geneva, followed by the announcement that the car was available for preorder. So what exactly has been the newly-spun-off company been up to with its first model?

The answer lies in Sweden. Specifically, the frigid reaches of northern Sweden, which are currently serving as the testing grounds for the Polestar 1. This is where the company has set up camp ever since it revealed the car, and has been putting the 1 through its paces in a hostile environment which sees temperatures fall to a low as 28 degrees below freezing.

According to the press release accompanying the video, Polestar focused especially on the car’s advanced torque vectoring system. The icy surfaces of the testing area provide an ideal platform for the company to test the limits of the electric coupe’s grip and handling in the most demanding situations.

“Besides being very happy with the balance of the chassis, [our test drivers] are particularly excited about the torque vectoring,” said Thomas Ingenlath, Polestar CEO. “We are now very confident about how this enhances the Polestar 1’s cornering responsiveness and accuracy…We have now passed a major milestone in the development of the Polestar 1, and prototype testing continues throughout 2018.”

The Polestar 1 is in its final testing phase and will show its road-ready form at the upcoming Beijing Auto Show to be held from 25 April to 4 May.
