Toyota introduced the current Yaris sedan in 2015 and for the 2017 model year, they updated the car with a CVT transmission, which addresses one of the biggest issues that the Yaris sedan always had – an outdated transmission.
Though the Yaris sedan shares its platform and most of its parts with the Yaris hatch, the face of the sedan looks much more matured and less polarizing. Even the rear looks more sorted compared to its quirky looking 5-door version. The interiors though are identical to the hatchback, and thus the issues with the tacky looking fake ‘stitched-look’ dashboard, the cheap looking plastics that try to mimic brushed aluminum are all there in the Yaris sedan too. Good part though, is that the interiors are spacious and a comfortable place to be in.
The Yaris sedan is offered in two trims, SE & SE+ both of which are powered by a 1.5L VVT-i engine that is good enough for 105HP and 140NM of torque. The engine is refined and together with the smooth CVT transmission offers a calm driving experience.
When it comes to safety, Toyota has made sure that both the SE & SE+ are adequately equipped. Both the variants come with ABS – with Electronic Brake force Distribution & Braking assist, Dual front airbags and also ESP as standard. Good news is that Cruise control is also standard on the Yaris sedan, unlike the Yaris hatch. However, smart features like smart key, push button start, projector headlamps, front fog lamps, tweeters in the front doors, leather wrapped steering wheel – which also has controls for the music system, Automatic climate control and few other cosmetic features are all reserved for the SE+ variant only. The SE+ variant also comes with a slightly larger 185/60 R15 tyres with alloys, against the 175/65 R14 steel wheels on the SE variant.
