The Mazda 3 is available in hatchback and sedan form here in the UAE, and the latest model that is on sale today is quite a looker. The large, deep-set grill with the chrome borders that connect with the headlamps complete the familiar Mazda family face. The long snout and the sculpted sides make the Mazda 3 look striking. The rear too looks sporty, with sleek tail lamps and black inserts on the lower portion of the rear bumper.
The interiors carry the same sporty theme, with the large centrally placed tachometer, the floating audio console, and sculpted seats that hug the occupants. The brushed aluminum around the AC vents adds to the charisma of the interiors. What doesn’t impress much is the space on offer – the Mazda 3 being a compact car has constrains on space, especially for the rear seat occupants which is hard to ignore.
There are two engines on offer – a 1.6L 4-cylinder engine that puts out 103.5HP and 145Nm of torque and is mated to a 4-speed AT and a bigger 2.0L 4-cylinder engine with 153HP and 200Nm of torque and thankfully comes coupled with a 6-speed AT. The 4-speed AT on the smaller 1.6L engine compromises on overall vehicle performance and efficiency, while the 2.0L engine benefits from the 6-speed AT and Mazda’s Skyactiv technology which helps it offer competitive fuel efficiency along with better performance. The Mazda 3 is a very nice and entertaining car to drive, however one still would miss the precise steering feel of the previous gen Mazda 3.
Available in a range of variants with the 5-door hatchback available in 1.6 V and 2.0 R trims, and the Mazda 3 sedan is available in 1.6 S, 1.6 V, 1.6 V SR, 2.0 SE and 2.0 R trims. The standard safety kit is modest -ABS with EBD, Dual front airbags, ISO-FIX child seat anchors and all around disc brakes are offered as standard. The R trim gets LED headlamps with auto leveling and blind spot monitoring too. On the convenience features- cruise control, push button start, audio system with 4 speakers and Bluetooth are standard across the range, while the V SR trim gets touch screen with navigation and a 6 speaker audio with reversing camera too, while the flagship R model gets a lovely sounding 9 speaker audio.
