The MKC luxury compact crossover SUV may shares its foundation and much of its underpinnings with the Ford Escape, but that’s where similarities end. Lincoln introduced the MKC as a 2015 model with its own distinctive styling and profile.
Little has changed for the 2018 model year and Premiere, Select, Reserve, and Black Label trim variants are still offered. MKC delivers on the level of luxury promised by the Lincoln brand and the USP is that even the base model comes as well-planned package.
MKC offers customers a choice of two powertrains. Base engine is a 245hp 2.0-litre twin-turbocharged four-cylinder with the standard 6-speed automatic transmission. Gears are engaged by push buttons on the console, similar to some of Jaguar models.
There’s also a 285hp 2.3-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine as an option for all MKC trim levels except AWD Premiere variant.
Safety ratings for the MKC are impressive. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has given the MKC only a four-star overall rating. It earned a five-star score for the side-impact test, but four stars for frontal impact and rollover resistance. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gave the MKC a Good rating for side-impact and moderate overlap testing.
What’s more. Rearview camera is standard and blind-spot monitoring is included or available with upper trim levels. An optional Technology Package offers adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and park assist features.
A reworked MKC is scheduled for release in summer 2018 as a 2019 model, with revised styling and a pre-collision safety system.
