The Emgrand GS according to Geely is an urban crossover SUV and the first of its kind from the carmaker. As a fairly new model in the line-up, the GS was first premiered at the 2016 Beijing Auto Show where the car was unveiled in two forms; an Elegance model and a Sports model.
The GS is also sold as the Boyue in China and was among the new wave of models designed by a team led by Peter Horbury and hence sports a modern design with now familiar signature detailing of the brand, the grille in particular.
Sitting on a 2,670mm wheelbase, the GS is 4,519mm long, 1,831mm wide, and 1,694mm high makes it slightly smaller than the Mazda CX-5 and the Honda CR-V. The cabin is quite good in all departments – the dashboard is clean and well laid out and the tall centre console come with Porsche Cayenne-style grab handles on either side give the car a modern, contemporary look.
The top of the dashboard is finished in soft-touch plastics while the seats and all the major touch points are wrapped in Nappa leather. Smart keyless entry and start, 8-inch touchscreen with Apply Carplay and Android Auto connectivity, AUX and USB ports, 6 speakers, Bluetooth, Eco/Normal/Sport drive mode selector, 3.5-inch dash display, one-touch up/down power windows, power-folding mirrors, auto a/c, rear camera with rear sensors, cruise control, panoramic sunroof are among the features provided.
A 160hp 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine comes mated with manual or six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.Safety features include ABS with EBD, ESP, electric parking brake with auto-hold, seatbelt pretensioners, ISOFIX latches and 6 airbags.
