The second generation redesigned Edge mid-sized crossover SUV was introduced for Middle East markets in 2016 and is built on the newer CD4 platform in Canada.
Besides the US and Middle East, the Edge also looks at Europe among its key markets. The effort shows through the redesign with instantly identifiable features like the new Taurus and Explorer-like grille, new headlights, LED combination taillights.
As a 2-row SUV, it now offers increased interior room, Ford offers the Edge three engine and four trim levels: Edge SE, SEL, Titanium, and Sport. Base engine is a turbocharged 2.0-litre 220hp four-cylinder. Next up is the 280hp 3.5-litre V6. Standard in Sport trim is a twin-turbo 315hp Ecoboost 2.7-litre V6. All engines are mates with 6-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive is standard with all-wheel drive is also available. The Sport edition comes only with all-wheel drive.
Ford Edge SE comes with fabric seats, cruise control, latest version of SYNC, a six-speaker AM/FM/CD player, and 18-inch alloy wheels.
Edge SEL adds power front seats, rear parking sensors, LED signature lighting, dual-zone automatic climate control, heated power mirrors, heated seats, blindspot monitoring, and navigation.
Edge Titanium gets a 12-speaker B&O audio system, heated front seats, hands-free liftgate, SYNC 3 infotainment, a sunroof, and 19-inch wheels. Edge AWD Sport has distinctive styling cues, all-wheel drive, a sport-tuned suspension, adaptive steering, SYNC 3, leather-trimmed seats with sueded cloth inserts, a hands-free liftgate, and 20-inch wheels.
As part of the line-up rejig, the ST is positioned above the Sport as the top trim level for the line.
While standard safety features include Advance Trac with Roll Stability Control, front and side airbags, Safety Canopy side-curtain airbags with rollover detection, hill start assist, tyre pressure monitor and ABS, with options such as blind-spot monitor, rear camera and cross-traffic detection, three new safety technologies have been added which are post-collision braking which automatically applies brake pressure when a collision event is detected, evasive steering assist that helps drivers in steering around stopped or slower vehicles in order to avoid a possible collision and adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go lane centering and lane departure warning.
