The Taurus is Ford’s flagship sedan globally and the current generation Taurus was launched all the way back in 2012 in the UAE, and it received a facelift sometime in 2015. Despite the mid-life upgrade, there is no hiding the fact that the Taurus has started looking a bit dated – especially from the rear with those huge LED tail lamps and the chrome strip connecting them.
The interiors give a nice cockpit feel with the dashboard flowing right between the front seats into the centre tunnel to create a very unique, yet a bit claustrophobic cabin at the front. The seats all around are well-bolstered and the rear seat space is quite spacious too, creating a silent and cocooned cabin.
Range of engines comprises of the 3.5L Ti-VCT V6 with 268HP and a SHO variant (Super high output) with a 3.5L V6 EcoBoost which puts out a powerful 371HP and 475Nm of torque. While a 2.0L EcoBoost with 241HP and 368Nm of torque is available as an option for the lower variants. All engine options come mated to a 6-speed AT. The 3.5L EcoBoost is AWD only, the 3.5 Ti-VCT can be had in either FWD or AWD, and the 2.0L EcoBoost is available only with FWD.
Silently cruising on the highway is what this full-size American sedan is intended to do, and it doesn’t seem too comfortable while throwing its weight around the corners. All the four variants – S, SE, Limited and SHO have a long list of standard safety features including ABS with EBD, dual front airbags with side and curtain airbags with roll-over sensor, ESP, torque vectoring, tire pressure monitoring and ISOFIX for child seat anchors. The S, SE and Limited variants come standard with the 3.5L Ti-VCT engine – with the S & SE variant having the option of being specified with the 2.0L EcoBoost engine, and the range toping SHO variant comes with only the 3.5L EcoBoost engine option.
