The present generation Ford Expedition has been hanging around for more than a decade now, with just facelifts to freshen up its appeal once in a while. The full-size SUV from Ford isn’t a particularly pleasing to the eye, as the design has started getting a little long in the tooth. However huge front grille, the large windows, the traditional SUV profile and with massive proportions, it does manage to capture some attention and it definitely has street presence.
Climb into the Expedition’s cavernous interiors, and everything is again king-sized. There is ample space all around, and there is a plethora of storage options between the front seats, the third-row seats are spacious and there is lots of boot space with all three rows in their space too. With so much space all around, up to eight regular-sized adults can travel extremely comfortably. However being a decade old platform, the hard plastics and dated design do little to pamper the occupants and the premium feel is missed.
Powering this massive SUV is a powerful 3.5L V6 EcoBoost that generates 385HP and an extremely impressive 629Nm of torque. This mighty engine is mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission and comes with standard RWD layout, and can optionally be ordered with 4WD. Despite its size and sheer mass, the Expedition performs rather well – thanks to the powerful EcoBoost with punchy power delivery. The suspension tuning is also spot on, and this mammoth on wheels doesn’t feel too uncomfortable around corners too – considering its sheer size and the weight it carries. But the Expedition is definitely not the ideal choice to enjoy driving through corners at full-pace.
The Expedition is offered in XL, XLT, Limited, King Ranch and Platinum trims and safety features such as ABW with EBD, dual front airbags along with side and curtain airbags, ESP with roll-over sensor, trailer sway control, tire pressure monitoring, ISOFIX child seat anchors and post-crash alert system are available across the range.
