Ford’s iconic pony car, the Mustang has a rich heritage and has been an aspirational nameplate over five decades. The Mustang is now into its sixth generation and made its world debut in 2014, and has been really successful thus far. The sixth-gen car looks like a hybrid between an American muscle car and a sports car. The wide trapezoidal grill, the angry looking headlamps with LED DRLs, the tri-bar LED tail lamps with sequentially lit indicators and the legendary fastback shape, all combine to make the Mustang a visual treat.
With its extra-long hood and seeming small cabin, the Mustang does not promise huge space on the inside, and thus, the rear seats are best suited for kids, or a couple of shopping bags. The design theme on the inside is a little laidback and not too flamboyant. The materials used too, are on par for the course, but would probably not surprise anybody. On the Premium variants though, aircraft like toggle switches and an 8 inch touch screen add a nice.
The Mustang has always been known for its vast engines, and there are three engines on offer – a 3.7L Ti-VCT V6 engine with 300HP and 380Nm, a 2.3L EcoBoost engine that punched above its weight with 320HP and 439Nm of torque and a roaring 5.0L Ti-VCT V8 engine with 415HP and a very impressive 530Nm of torque. All three engine options come standard with a 6-speed manual transmission, while a 6-Speed AT can be opted for. What is more impressive is the way the sixth-gen Mustang handles and rides… There is a beautiful balance in the way the car turns into corners, and the ride quality stays flat and comfortable on highway speeds too, making for a very comfortable tourer. The handling is not as sharp & precise like a true sports car though, and on the track the Mustang feels a bit too soft.
The Mustang fastback is available in V6, EcoBoost, EcoBoost Premium, V8 powered GT and GT Premium trims. ABS with EBD, a limited slip differential, dual front airbags, knee, side and curtain airbags and cruise control come standard on all variants. There are numerous other features and personalization options on offer for the Mustang and the Premium variants really feel well-kitted.
