The Mustang convertible is based on the same sixth-generation of the iconic Mustang fastback model that was introduced in 2015. The sixth-gen car looks like a hybrid between an American muscle car and a full-on sports car, and the soft-top convertible looks really good. The angry face of the Mustang fastback has been retained, but subtle touches like the strong character line on the rear haunch and unique trunk lid set the convertible apart. The soft-top folds down in a matter of seconds, at the press of a button, to provide open-air freedom.
The interiors are identical to the fastback model, so the ergonomic cabin, the classic center console design with three circular AC vents are all there. This means the lack of space on the rear seats are there too. So the rear seat occupants are probably not going to enjoy the wind in their hair, as much as the front seat occupants would.
Like the Mustang fastback, on the convertible too, there are three engines on offer – a 3.7L Ti-VCT V6 engine with 300HP and 380Nm, a 2.3L EcoBoost engine that punched above its weight with 320HP and 439Nm of torque and a roaring 5.0L Ti-VCT V8 engine with 415HP and a very impressive 530Nm of torque. All three engine options come standard with a 6-speed manual transmission, while a 6-Speed AT can be opted for. The Mustang convertible though has slightly lower fuel efficiency figures, as the coefficient of drag is slightly higher with the soft-top.
The Mustang convertible can be had in V6, EcoBoost Premium or the V8 powered GT Premium trims. ABS with EBD, a limited slip differential, dual front airbags, knee, side and curtain airbags and cruise control come standard on all variants. And the Premium trim offer quite a long list of equipment to make the Mustang convertible, an attractive proposition.
