The second generation Ford Figo was launched in 2016, and is available in 4-door sedan or 5-door hatchback body styles now. The little Ford has the Aston Martin-esque grill upfront with nice chrome slats and a very contemporary profile. The boot is rather plane-jane in comparison, and could have done with a little more design flair. The 14-inch wheels though, look puny in comparison to the car’s body and don’t suit the car much.
For a car of such small dimensions, the Figo has quite a spacious cabin. Given the price-point, one can probably expect hard plastics all around and the Figo has just that. The instrument console is basic, and boring to look at. If premium feel of the cabin is of high priority, it would be wiser to look one segment above.
The new-gen Figo comes with a 1.5L Ti-VCT engine that is good enough for 110.5HP and 136Nm of torque, and this engine is mated with a 6-speed dual clutch automatic transmission that Ford calls Power-shift. The engine needs to be revved to get anywhere quickly, as it is quite low on low end torque. Performance is adequate, but what is commendable is the rated fuel efficiency of 18.1 kmpl, which makes it an economical car to operate. And like with most Fords, the Figo is dynamically impressive, with neutral handling capabilities. However, the new electric power steering cannot recreate the magic of the older hydraulic steering. Nevertheless, highway stability and composure are quite good, considering the car’s size and the asking price.
Figo comes in three variants – Ambiente, Trend & Titanium and all three get standard set of safety equipment that consists of ABS with EBD, ESP, Hill hold & hill launch assist, dual airbags at the front. The Titanium variant gets side and curtain airbags too, along with a programmable key, that can be used to limit the vehicle’s maximum speed and the audio system’s maximum volume – these features can be ordered as a package on the Trend variant too.
