With successful competitors like Mercedes-Benz GLS-Class (and possibly the G-Class), as well as the Land Rover Range Rover, Cadillac Escalade, Lincoln Navigator, Lexus LX, and Infiniti QX80, BMW has upped its game with the all-new X7. The X7 was first announced by BMW in March 2014 and the production version officially unveiled on October 17, 2018, with pre-orders being taken online. The X7 will be available at dealers starting in March 2019.
BMW promises the incoming 3-row X7 blends lavish presence, exclusivity and spaciousness with the versatile and agile driving properties as expected from a Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV).
The cabin shares a lot with the new X5. The centre, iDrive Controller, the newly designed gear selector, the start/stop button, the Driving Experience Control switches, electronic parking brake switch, and controls for the air suspension and optional off-road modes are all now grouped together.
The largest model in the BMW X line-up gets the latest in powertrain and chassis technology, plus generous levels of space in each of its rows of seats, a luxurious ambience and advanced equipment features, to deliver an unparalleled driving and interior experience. BMW’s new design language brings the modern elegance characteristic of the brand’s luxury-segment models to the exterior of the BMW X7, and adds visual poise, assurance and an overriding sense of authority. The line-up of engines available at launch includes a newly-developed petrol V8 in the BMW X7 xDrive50i and a six-cylinder in-line petrol unit. In short, the X7 will come with the same engines as the X5 with slightly revised power outputs like 335hp from the 3.0-litre and 456hp from the bigger 4.4-litre. The 8-speed gearbox has now a wider ratio spread and new control electronics mainly for improved efficiency. Additionally, new torsion dampers reduce rotational forces and converter slip for improved shift comfort.
M Sport package and exclusive options from BMW Individual will also be available.
The new BMW X7 will be built at BMW Plant Spartanburg in the US state of South Carolina.
