The BAIC A1 is a hatchback from the Chinese manufacturer that offers to be a great city commuter and a family hauler for the city. Externally the car looks modern with its aluminum brushed grill that reminds you of the Mercedes A Class and as a matter of fact, the entire car looks like a Mercedes A Class and a Honda car mixed together. That being said, the car is stunning in its proportions and seems more compact. There are some nice faux air vents in the bottom that give it a stance and an aggressive appeal making the car look well designed in its entirety.
The car comes with a independent suspension in the front and torsion beam suspension in the rear for firmness while offering a comfortable ride. The dashboard is clean and simple with good plastics and a well laid out design. The car in its specific trims even comes with rain sensors which is not something that is available in this segment.
There are other technological upgrades in the car that help it stand out as a desirable option. There is manual air conditioning and an infotainment with USB port capabilities. The car has the capability of taking really good corners at a reasonably confident pace aiding in confidence without much body roll. This is a city car and can seat four comfortably and move them around without too much drama. The braking is linear and comes with a sport mode if you need to push the car to its limit in certain occasions offering a good dose of power with its 1.5L engine that puts 113hp and 143Nm of torque.
